The Nunes memo is a dud
Vox ^ | February 2, 2018 | Zack Beauchamp

Rep. Devin Nunes’s infamous memo — the document numerous House Republicans claimed would demonstrate fundamental anti-Trump corruption at the FBI — was released early Friday afternoon. The entire thing is three and a half pages and only takes a few minutes to read closely and carefully.

After doing that, there is only one conclusion a fair reader could draw: There is absolutely nothing here.

There is no proof in the memo that the FBI is biased against Trump, no proof of abuse of surveillance powers by the FBI, and no proof that the investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia are fundamentally flawed. The memo is a piece of partisan spin, and not a particularly compelling one at that.

Republicans who claimed it was anything else have been egregiously misrepresenting what the memo actually says.

The memo does not support its core claim The memo begins by making a grandiose claim: The FBI’s use of surveillance power under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) during the 2016 campaign was “a troubling breakdown of legal processes established to protect the American people from abuses related to the FISA process.”

The only example the memo cites is an October 21, 2016, request by the Department of Justice and FBI for permission under FISA powers to snoop on former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page. The key word there is former: Page had left the Trump campaign at least a month before the application. That’s the first red flag that there’s nothing here, as an FBI campaign to undermine Trump’s campaign would almost certainly involve targeting someone who was actually working on it.

This is what the left is going to argue over the next few days. That it's a nothing burger.

Vox closes its eyes and puts its fingers in its ears and says it doesn’t see or hear anything.

You are so incorrect as to defy logic. There are thousands of pages of proof. It was explicitly explained those pages would not be published. IF you want them, get a warrent.

Sorry, Left. You lose again. When resignations are taking place at high levels of the FBI you know it’s serious,.

I really wish they would say, “but Adam Schiff, you acted like it was going to destroy the country. How can you say it’s nothing now?”

Lol! They can't very well have it both ways. Yesterday it was so sensitive that if released it would be the end of democracy, grandma and apple pie.

So we know this person has borderline illiteracy. What we don’t know is whether she is fully blind or just partially blind.

Counter argument is that the GOP was simply releasing some important factual, background information. It was the Democrat’s reaction that made the memo such a cause celebre’.

The left isn’t shocked because what this memo describes is SOP to them.

And that is going to result in a lot of the underlying support documentation being released.

Some of it was released before the memo was released. The 99 page FISA Court report concluded that 85% of the Obama administration’s FISA requests were fraudulent and illegal.

How many of these praising Obama’s hammer, would allow President Trump to use Obama’s hammer on them?

If it had nothing to do with Trump then why was the Steele dossier the basis for the Fisa warrant application? Methinks something stinks!

It’s all they have left. Think about it....they are not arguing for the most part what it says....just that it’s no big deal. As more comes out over the weeks and months ahead there’s going to be a full breaking point where not even saying ‘is this all’ won’t be enough to help them

Nothing to see here.

This is not proof that our intelligence agencies have morphed into the Stasi.

These are not the conspirators you were looking for.

Zack Beauchamp, what would your response be if Trump’s FBI used data that I, in my absolute loathing of you, conjured up, to obtain FISA warrant to spy on you?
