I totally agree. I'm all for more secure networks but putting the government in charge of it will only guarantee the exact opposite will occur. The best thing they could do is require vital network infrastructure be constructed in the US under independent private review. Have the industry create a kind of Underwriters Lab for hardware and software security and best practices.
The meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities should give anyone pause.
Have the Chinese added another deliberate vulnerability to chips they manufacture, that by COTS are ubiquitous in, say avionics?
I keep thinking of all the lawsuits by the environmentalists will drag out construction and servicing for years.
The poor Chinese will die of boredom if they read my email or listen to my phone calls! I hope they have it automated...
That is not “nationalizing.” Mentioning something is not considering. csnbc is worthless.
Oh, I used to be you.
But very quickly the picture turned right back into what we have now, only faster.
I was in the discussions of making medicine so fast and easy that radiology-level data transfers could integrate with ambulances and even the home. I heard about distributed processing taking on mobile devices as well to provide crash-free, super-computer level computers in your hand.
Then someone mentioned what it could do for VR Porn and the whole thing went right back to online gambling, porn and social media.
Feh.
I hope they listen in on my aunt with Dementia. They’ll learn all kinds of good things.
It the Chinese eavesdropped on my calls they would be terminally bored.
Agreed. As honest government officials will attest, the government is far behind the private sector in virtually every area of technology. As the government takes five or more years to develop, test and deploy new technology, it falls further and further behind the private sector.
I was thinking more in terms of tracking all of us, everywhere, all the time.
Maybe I need to stop watching “Person of Interest.”
:^)
NEVER stop watching that show! That show is an unsung hero of television. One of the greats.
