Power-boater tourists with more power than brains and common courtesy are common in FL.

I thought, too, if the speed boat was more maneuverable it had a duty to steer around the fishing boat.

My Sea Ray had the same thing. I think they called it a bolster?

So much for a relaxing day out on the water. Golly!
It’s hard to imagine the driver being THAT careless. He doesn’t even say he was distracted by something. Early stage dementia, perhaps?

The fishing boat apparently being anchored, it wasn’t under way. That put the burden of avoidance on any vessel that was under way and the cruiser really was, at what looks like well over 30 mph. Cruiser’s skipper, he in deep brown smelly stuff, like man emptying out house in Haiti.

That’s why I stay off boats.

More info... "Larsens son-in-law, who also was on the boat, told investigators that he had warned his father-in-law to pay attention, that he sometimes sees his father-in-law using his cell phone while driving the boat and that his father-in-law had been off-and-on his cell phone the morning of the crash, according to the sheriffs report."
How it takes two guys to screw up this bad is beyond me. I'm betting they were below deck.
