Been thinking about buying a drone to play with for the last 2 or more years. Probably have posted a query here more than once. So I ran across the JY018 and was wunderin' if anybody else read about it or even if has one? I don't have a smart phone. Tried one and it didn't make me smarter . :<(( I do have a Samsung Galaxy 3 tablet. The reason I say this is because one needs an RC device to control it and I don't know if the Samsung can do it.
The reviews aren’t so great. Maybe spend some more and get one with a controller.

Less than a year ago I started with a Promark drone for about
$100. It was a good learner and durable but had no GPS and the camera sucked.
I've upgraded to a Parrot Bebop2 and it is amazing and fascinating
and awesome in all respects. I've got a buddy who has a Mavic Pro drone and it's even nicer.
Good luck and post some updates!
If you seriously want to learn to fly, and learn about the hardware, I would recommend building your own drone.
The radio I bought to control mine was around $120.
If you want a “recipe” let me know.
Received a drone for Christmas - Sky Viper v2450GPS - you might consider look at this model.
My first drone did not have a camera or gps, but was a good learning device.
The new Sky Viper includes a 720p camera that can record to a removable sd memory card 30fps or stream live to the ground via wifi at 20 fps. I can stream it to my Samsung Nexus 10 tablet (android).
The viper also comes with a control unit - nothing else to purchase.
The heart of the viper (controller hardware) is ardupilot based - open source software with an extensive list of features. This device (because of its gps and firmware ability) can be pre-programed to fly a flight plan that you create on your PC. Software call Mission Planner (free) is used by many RC devices including planes, copters, boats, cars/etc.
I’m seeing sky viper 2450gps model for sale and major box stores in the $100 dollar range. Very good reviews.
I’ve only flown mine indoors thus far, need to get the snow off the ground and winds down before it goes outside.
Have FUN !
Thanks, guess I’ll take a pass on this one.
Unfortunately I think my building days are behind me. I built and flew RC gliders back in the 70s. Flew them off the bluffs in Lompoc, CA. Really enjoyed it. Wound up actually getting my private license and then 5 more upgrades. But that was a hunert years ago.
OK, I wrote the model number down and will look into this one further. Thanks.
Drones are easier.
The RC hardware is much better than back then.
A few screws, servo tape, and zip ties and your off!
The frame for my 250 class drone was $25
Most of the work is wiring the components together and tying down all the wires.
