AMD have updated their web page and clarified a bit more on speculative_execution vulnerabilities with some additional details on current state of affairs and AMD actions.

speculative_execution is just WRONG. Period.
Yea, I’ve got an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X processor and I’m watching this closely.
Before last week, I had never even heard of Meltdown or Spectre and now you can’t turn a corner without running into a conversation about them.
From what I’ve heard, there’s no platform that’s immune.
I have an Intel I5, is there going to be a way to refuse the coming patch?
I got nothing to hide, i heard the performance drop on PC’s will be over 20%.
the few modern games i play will take a serious hit...
Ping!.................
I have one too, also an old FX 8350 impacted by this. Watching this pretty closely myself ...
I read Wikipedia on speculative execution.
Seems to me if the processor hardware fetches any data speculatively, the software would never see that data.
Is there anything in the programming manuals explaining how software can data that was speculatively pulled but not used?
I really have no experience in these details, but know that pretty much anything that can be imagined can be programmed in software/firmware/hardware.
Speculative execution run by a high level AI might make some sense for s/w that is engaged in highly repetitive loops.
To let M$ run amok is insanity.
AMD’s statement suggests that it’s not as vulnerable as Intel, but we’ll see.
I caught a virus this morning on my Yahoo! homepage of all places. Nothing worked so I did a hard reset and lost my bookmarks, passwords, etc . . . Win 10 came back as default settings and hadn’t realized how much work it is to eliminate all the unnecessary poop installed. Killing Cortana is like shooting a vampire. She comes right back to memory sucking life. My computer is slow as molasses in January. I’m thinking of trying a Linux clone of some sort. Any (positive) suggestions?
I am running an 8120 . How much better than the 8350 us the 1700x for browsing and whacking a lot of screens and tabs on all of Firefox stuff?
And I am all over the web, not had a virus problem...my motherboard gives me some problems.
It is not about having nothing to hide.
There is a design flaw on how the OS interacts with the processor.
Without patch, it is possible for password and security systems to be bypassed.
My thinking it should only slow down some web surfing and secure connections.
It shouldnt effect gaming or general computing.
Both my 8350 and 1700x were built using SSD's, 32GB of memory and higher end motherboards so I used all higher end components.
The virtualization I do however really shines on the 1700x vs. the 8350. So if you run lots of VM's and do development like I do, the 1700x will dramatically outperform the 8350 and rival the i7's.
Basic stuff like web browsing and MS office/Office 365 not really noticeable and I still use my 8350 for those tasks and for my bastion host for other things. It's a workhorse to be sure.
