My Buddy from Seattle rents from Budget in south Scottsdale. A lot less expensive and only about 15 min drive from airport. They give you the option to return at airport too. Easy UBER drive to the off airport site to pick up.

I’ve had good luck and good prices with Fox Rent-A-Car. But your “mileage” may vary.

I have found that Costco isn’t always so cheap - Enterprise was less.

Airports will generally have a high airport fee applied to the rental cost.

Find a hotel with a free shuttle bus to its property that either has a rental car desk at their property or one nearby.

Similar to an earlier post here: You taxes and fees are determined by the location from which you rent. If you rent at an airport, particularly a big airport, you can easily pay 50% of the rental charge in additional taxes/fees. If you take a taxi/Uber 10 miles from the airport, it’s very possible that the taxes/fees will be closer to 15%. Most of the big companies have these ‘local’ locations, in addition to airport locations.

And, as noted above, as long as your return is local, you can return it to the airport and not have to pay any of their fees (just be sure it’s considered local, or it becomes a one-way rental and the cost skyrockets).

Uber has solved the taxi problem. The yet unsolved problem is the car rental problem where you are going out of town, or even while in town, you loan your car to a stranger for a few days. Or maybe there is such a service but I don’t know about it.

If you are a AAA member, call them. They were very good. Reasonably priced. If you have a credit card, it will cover the insurance, that should save you some money as well!

If you are a Costco member you might try their travel service. Their rates were lower than anything else I could find last time I rented a car.

You can rent a small sized car for $36 per day from Payless Car rental. Use travelocity.

There is a light rail that goes right by the airport . 4$ to take it all day. Use that to get close to a discount rent a car. The pass is good for the buses as well.

i don’t know where you are travelling from but I have seen extreme bargains for one way rentals from california to arizona. Far cheaper than picking up in phoenix and dropping off in phoenix. Something to consider if you can drive in to phoenix, use the car while you’re there, drop it off at sky harbor and fly out

Stay away from Enterprise. They tried to frame me for a $1300 false damage charge when I was across country.

I know a guy that flies in to a city. They take an uber to a rental place away from the airport and they rent from there. Lower overhead, lower prices.

But you are going to pay through the nose depending on what else is going on in town, and...it’s winter and Phoenix is a destination for a lot of folks. February is also spring training for lots of college baseball teams.
