That particular song, only done by Tom Jones, was quite popular at our camp beer hall in Vietnam. I think the mindset was substituting the songs being in prison for being in Vietnam gave it a very appropriate meaning.

Perhaps that's why "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" by Tony Orlando was so popular.

Another popular one was “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place” by the Animals.

That one and ones like “Magic Carpet Ride” can be found on Youtube showing GI’s in slicks. Really brings back memories.
