I have occasional bouts of tinnitus - usually not more than an hour or so per day. As I get older, it is becoming more frequent. Still I am thankful it is not continuous, as it is with some people.
I do have one question, though: How do they tell whether or not a guinea pig is suffering from tinnitus?

Interesting....my tinnitis was likely caused from the needed heavy doses aspirin I had to take about 18 years ago for awhile...so...be careful, folks. (At least my stomach got saved with Deglycerrhized licorice)

Thanks for posting this.
I go to an otologist every couple years to see if any progress has been made. If you don’t have tinitus, there is no cure. There is a bunch of extra noise in my head that does interfere with normal hearing, even though I can pass mosts hearing tests.
Like the other poster, mine was probably caused by shooting high power rifles with my (totally deaf) father as a youth. Also loud rock music, specifically The Ramones.

This is great news.
I’m happy that the FDA will approve it in time for my grandchildren to benefit from it.

Hard to describe it as a ringing. Its more like a very high radio frequency sound. It could be a beacon from the great ice ship or its a message from outer space that can’t be deciphered. Its always there like a steam radiator valve when it is hot. (Like there are some of you who might remember them? Probably not.)

I have suffered a lot from this for 25 years. I wonder if they will figure anything out while I am still alive (probably not). Too much loud machinery back in the day.
I told my wife, at least when I die the never ending screeching will stop. Silver lining and all that.

So what is the correct pronunciation? My Dr. says tin-it-tis , but I've also heard it pronounced tin-night-tis. Maybe both are correct?
Mine appeared suddenly a couple of years ago. I was really freaked out at first because the ringing was very apparent and annoying. Since then my brain must have adapted because it now only bothers me when I think about it.
