Thanks, SC! You know me well! ;o]
I will certainly ping out Creek War material if brought to my attention.
All requests for one or both of my lists processed up to this point including FReep mail requests.
An omnibus ping will be issued late this evening.
61 names so far!!!
Please add me thanks. Don’t get to post much anymore, but do like to read articles.
BTW, have you become a member?
‘’’’’’’
No. Never saw a reason to do so.
Why do so?
the 21st century is going to be every bit as wild as the 17th century. only the frontier instead of being 200 miles to the west is 200 miles straight up.
Thanks.
No idea how to start a group or what permissions I need or what is actually involved.
The SAR is a patriotic, historical, and educational non-profit corporation, United States 501(c)3, that seeks to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, an appreciation for true patriotism, a respect for our national symbols, the value of American citizenship, and the unifying force of e pluribus unum.We support and maintain a genealogical library and museum at our national headquarters in Louisville, KY. Chapters usually hold luncheons and bring in appropriate guest speakers, we reach out to our local school systems, participate in community events, usually in costume, such as parades, we sponsor several educational contests at all grade levels, we encourage our members to continue their genealogical research and learn more about their patriot ancestors, we participate in veterans events representing America's First Veterans, and we encourage family involvement to bring along the next generation.
Some groups are active in re-enactments, others simply hold a commemorative ceremony if they have a battle site in their territory.
With all that, your membership can be as much or as little as you make it. Your dues alone will support others who are more active in keeping the Spirit of 76 alive.
I’ve got a couple of War of 1812 ancestors, one from each parental line. One marched with Jackson, the other arrived with Lafitte’s cannon at New Orleans (pirates!).
:^)
Please add me
Add to ping list please
Thanks.
Inaugural ping list ping
The list currently has 69 names and the reception the idea has received astonishes me. And I'm sure it will grow as folks become aware.
A few words about the mechanics of the list. When I find or am pinged to posts pertaining to The War of 1812, I will send out a ping to the list. I may generate content myself but that is not my purpose as list master. If I miss something, I look to y'all to alert me with a reply on an interesting thread with reply content something like "1812 ping request." Then I'll send out a post to the list.
I will try to keep the volume low, gathering articles into a digest list if necessary. I will also make sure these articles carry the "1812" keyword.
Thank you for your interest and I know we'll learn a lot as we bring focus on this part of American History.
Please FreepMail me if you want to be added to or removed from this low volume ping list. Ping requests gladly accepted.
Also note that posts pertaining to The War of 1812 will carry the keyword 1812 for your searching pleasure.
Good deal my wit went unnoticed
I’d like to be on the list. I’ve always wondered when that war was.
Every time I drive through Boston, I am reminded of the War of 1812 when I see the masts of the USS Constitution. We need to be reminded of this seminal war, which was England’s attempt to change the results of the Revolution.
Please add. Pretty much add me to anything but Civil War and WWII threads!
Please add me to your list, and thanks for your work on this!
