“They are not as flashy as other snakes in the region”
They’re humble snakes.
They drive Chevys.

"And, of course, there are always human-focused reasons to care, like the development of human drugs that help control medical issues, such as diabetes, made from snake and lizard venoms."Just think of all the new hypertension prescription drugs that they can make from these discoveries!

"New Guinea also has some snakes that some people might give more attention to because they are more exciting, like the dangerous venomous snakes that are related to cobras and coral snakes." Well, what a shock, paying attention to the bastards that will kill you!

I saw a 3 ft long snake in a west Tennessee bottom after the 100 yr flood.
It had a flat tail like you see on sea snakes swimming along using that tail to good advantage.
It was in a small clear water creek.
Anybody seen one like that?

What benefit does the study of New Guinea ground snakes offer to the taxpayers forced to pay for it? Withdraw ALL government funding for such BS and make them work from donations freely given!

Snake venoms provide a veritable treasure trove of chemicals that do different things.
Lisinopril, a now common blood pressure medication, was originally derived from snake venom...........
