7 Concealed Carry Handguns for Last-Minute Shoppers
Breitbart News ^ | 19 Dec, 2017 | AWR Hawkins

Christmas is less than a week away and that means the time is right for a list of seven concealed carry handguns for last minute shoppers. Some of the handguns on the list are revolvers, others semiautomatics, but all are concealable and demonstrably popular for self-defense.

Ruger LCP II—The Ruger LCP II is an updated version of the extremely popular LCP. The pistol is chambered in .380 with a grip that is slightly wider than the original LCP. The wider grip was added to diminish recoil. The grip of the LCP II is textured to help keep the gun steady in the owner’s hand, and it has a trigger that is equipped with a safety. The edges of the pistol, including the sights, are rounded and smooth to prevent the gun from snagging when drawn from a purse or pocket for self-defense, and at 10.6 ounces the LCP II is comfortable for everyday carry. The pistol costs about $290.

Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 380—The M&P Bodyguard is a semiautomatic handgun chambered in .380. It weighs in at 12 ounces and has a meaty, textured grip to help prevent the gun from slipping in the hand. The M&P line has proven to be one of Smith & Wesson’s most popular lines ever, and the Bodyguard 380 one of best concealed carry guns in that line. It is a true pocket gun imbued with Smith & Wesson quality. The Bodyguard 380 begin at about $310.

I would not choose any on this list, but they may be good choices for some. I live in the Colorado Rockies in a grandfathered parcel in the Roosevelt National Forest. While I have the normal human threats when travelling into the urban areas, I also have wild animal threats at home and when working in the yard. The most common incidents I have had are with black bears. Also there have been mountain lions, moose, mule deer and coyotes in my yard.

I don’t want to take on any of these with a 380 or a 9mm. I currently carry in front pocket a somewhat heavy all steel 40 cal single stack. I switch magazines with home and yard carry with the excellent Double Tap 200 gr Wide Flat Nose Lead Hard Cast clocked at 1,000 fps from my gun. In town I carry Speer Gold Dot 180 gr jhps.

Have been looking at S&W 57 or 58 in 41 Mag for yard carry too.

Just wondering what others use in their particular conditions.

I forgot to add that inside the house a Mossberg 500 shotgun loaded with slugs in summer when bears are out and 00 buckshot in winter.

If I were you, I’d look at a Glock G29, compact, 10mm.

Do they mean guns you should carry when you do last minute shopping?

I have looked at Glock 29, but it will not fit in my pocket. If I have to carry in a holster, fine. But I would probably pick a 41 mag or 44 mag for house and yard carry. I have a Dan Wesson 44 mag, but it was my very first handgun back in 1982 and I don’t want to scratch it. I also have a Fusion Firearms 1911 in 6-inch long slide 10 mm that is too nice to beat up working in the yard.

I don't know. Do they have WalMart riots at gun stores?

I don't care too much for my wife's LCP. The slide is too stiff. Now, one I would like to check out as a CC is the Taurus Spectrum:

I noticed that CDNN has several .380 pistols on sale in the $179 range.

I think one of them is that Taurus.

I live in similar surroundings in north Idaho. I carry a S&W Model 69 in .44 Mag loaded with a “medium power” version of the venerable Elmer Keith Load (250gr. cast lead SWC over 18 gr. of 2400) in the summer and a Ruger GP 100 3” barrel loaded with 185 gr. cast lead wide flat nose (made by Beartooth Bullets just across the Pend O’Reille river from me) over 14 gr. of H110 in the winter. Don’t expect to see any bears in the colder months. Both loads are very controllable and accurate in their respective revolvers.

I gave up loading magnum flamethrowers a long time ago. I’d rather have a hit with a slower moving bullet than a miss with a hypersonic one.

Yeah, they have the 738 TCP my wife has. Our son-in-law works for an FFL agent and can get that for us at about $149. He hooked me up with a good, bare bones AR for under $400 that I’ve been modding for the last four months.

As suggested above, the 10mm is great for your wildlife, but I think the ammo price is just too high to me for good range time. I’d personally go with the .45ACP for carry. I’d also have a rifle around the house for those yard problems - 12 ga slug or 45-70.

“I would not choose any on this list”

Because most of the list are not good choices.

I have a Glock 43 and a Ruger LCR, both of them are great firearms. The Ruger fits nicely between the split bench seats of my F-150 and is held in tight. I carry the 43 when I am not carrying my Glock 17. I recommend replacing the Glock sites as the originals are crap plastic.

1) gun beats no gun
2) a hit beats a miss
3) fast beats slow
4) big holes beat small holes
5) two holes beat one hole

If you find a nice model 57 I suspect you will really like it.

It is one of many which I wish I had been able to keep but at the time had no choice but to sell it. It was about as accurate as it is possible to make one.

On the negative side, I could never tell the difference between it and the model 29 as far as recoil Boy now that I think about it, those model 29s were also great.

My preferred weapon for deep carry. S&W 342PD. Scandium / Aluminum frame, Titanium cylinder, 38+P, No lock only 10.8oz empty. They don't make it anymore. Kicked like a mule at first, but got used to it. Easy to forget I'm carrying it

My problem is that I would want a pristine S&W 57, 58 or 29 and then I would not want to carry it. What I really NEED is one with cosmetic damage, but good working condition.

Why do the speed strips have six rounds when that revolver only holds 5 rounds?

“What I really NEED is one with cosmetic damage, but good working condition.”

I’ve got a 4” Stainless 629 in our safe. It’s got some honest wear and a few scratches. But it shoots like a dream. My wife likes the 210 grain JHP over about 7 grains or so of Bullseye.
