NFL Attendance Continues To Plummet As Empty Seat Epidemic Enters Week 15

As the NFL copes with a ratings slump and ESPN slashes $80 million in salaries after losing 15,000 subscribers a day in October, another major issue facing the league continued to play out in week 15 – terrible attendance.

Ravens vs. Browns, Start 2nd Qtr

While many blame the kneeing epidemic of unpatriotic players refusing to stand for the National Anthem – which started in the summer 2016 pre-season by former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, others point to a boring season, cord cutters and broke millennials staying home.

Either way, it’s ugly. Since most NFL attendance figures are based on “tickets distributed” as opposed to actual turnstile count, and most NFL ticket sales are to season-ticket holders, it’s nearly impossible to tell how many people are simply choosing not to attend games for which they’ve already bought tickets. Except, pictures don’t lie…

MetLife Stadium was a ghost town at the end of the first quarter, and “1/2 full” as the Philadelphia Eagles and NY Giants headed into the 4th quarter:

If it’s any consolation, the Browns are 0-13. Which is the same record they would have if they had picked up Colin Kaepernick..

The XFL will still give you arrogant Anti-American thugs who will simply look down and spit during the National Anthem. But you’ll get them to stand. Don’t give the players a way out.

Based on the few vid’s I’ve seen, the Steelers vs Pats game looked a bit over half full.

Right. Maybe you need to find a new source for "vids".

William Hill, the sports-betting bookmaker in Nevada, said that in years past, the most amount of betting was for nfl games. This year, nfl betting has declined to the point where it is now just as much as college football betting.

It would be a hoot if all these businesses who depend on the nfl (such as the network/radio broadcasters, the stadium concessions, the sports apparrel makers, the stores that sell the apparrel, William Hill, chicken-wing producers, pizza shops, bars and all else affected) would open up a can of class action whoopass against the nflol.

Thanks Chris! As a former nfl fan and now nfl detractor, all I can do is laugh at the league.

So all those losers, those NFL pom-pom waving fans in the stands, had the game end with a controversial call. Awwwwww.

I am a former Saints LUNATIC... and now, nothing.

Unfortunately, my former team may well be the biggest offender with what they did in England.

They killed the fan in me. Murdered it in cold blood. The NFL will never be forgiven by me. There is no way to fix it.

That is what we should all expect for a game of this magnitude, but the scenes they showed at 4 mins into the 3rd qtr that I saw actually zoomed in on different parts of the stands that were as bare as the bald heads in the half-measures scene in Breaking Bad.

nflol!

It’s cable cutters. I’ve never been able to cut ESPN without cutting cable.

“I want to see the satellite photos of stadium parking lots at game time.”

There are probably traffic cams (or reports for that matter) that can give information about how many people are driving to and from the stadiums.

And these are the losers who pre-bought season tickets now looking a cheaper bargain without the discounts!

Unless these customers are stuck on stupid like some of my Republican football fans at work who have imo no pride, Next year the NFL will have zilch attendance except for black people and some libs

The NFL should be concerned about former fans just like me.

I'm not really a "boycotter", I'm just a Vet that doesn't care to invest time and interest in having me and my wonderful Country and way of life insulted by some truly ignorant and ungrateful millionaires.

I don't feel like an irate member of an organized "boycot" community, I'm just someone who pulled the NFL plug, and did so from my attachment to my national heritage and my pride in my (and my family's) military service. The separation was remarkably easy, and the desire to re-up just is not there.

What this amounts to is this.

The NFL players could start standing this week, and I would be unconvinced and uninterested. It takes dozens of positives to undo a negative, and they are not even at one.

So, there is no bitterness, just an informed choice to reclaim my Sundays and to maintain my self-respect. (As proof, I have no idea who's in first place in any division; and, I have no idea who my once-and-former fave team played this week, month, or season.)

It is not likely that I would ever come back to the NFL fan fold even if, with all predictable reluctance, all of the players began standing again.

Well, some of these NFL groupie businesses like Ford or Coca Cola encouraged the NFL. Screw them. However the NFL is not like Coca Cola, something which can fall back on franchising in Arabia or China when people here will not buy the product
