Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday offered a meek defense of the FBI, which has faced harsh criticism from President Donald Trump in recent days.
I got to tell you, sometimes, things that might appear to be bad in the press have more innocent explanations, Sessions said cryptically during a press conference Friday. And so fairness and justice should also be provided to our personnel.
He was more explicit when a reporter asked if he shared Trumps view that the FBIs reputation and status is in tatters.
I dont share the view that the FBI is not functioning at a high level all over the country, Sessions said.

Get rid of Sessions.
Get rid of the FBI.
For starters.
Would that he spent 1/2 that energy defending his country and Potus.
I would call it “utterly clueless”. Sessions is either an idiot, or completely corrupt.
Sessions is meek.
Sessions cannot say more until the IG Report comes out and Mueller indictments start to fly in a direction most people are not anticipating.
We are increasingly faced with the fact that the FBI’s top ranks have been filled with political ideologues who helped Hillary Clinton while pursuing the Russian influence narrative against Trump (perhaps as the “insurance” Strzok spoke of). Meanwhile, “hands off” recused Attorney General Jeff Sessions and assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein don’t seem very excited to explore the issues...
As such, we are now almost entirely reliant on the various Committees of congress to pursue justice in this matter. Perhaps when their investigations have concluded, President Trump will feel he has the political and legal ammunition to truly clean house at the nation’s swampiest agencies.
Sessions has been co-opted.
He really doesn’t have the skillz (nor do I) to bring the common sense, comprehensive change needed at the whole DOJ.
Was he always so meek? Maybe it’s not meek, maybe it’s devious.
I dont share the view that the FBI is not functioning at a high level all over the country, Sessions said.
In clear, Sessions, who is so discreet, essentially opens his mouth to contradict his boss.
What a despicable useless toxic treasonous weasel.
It’s so despicable to see Comey and the MSM flacks try to wrap Comey and McCabe and Strzok and Page and the other crooked FBI leadership in the accomplishments of rank-and-file FBI agents, as if any criticism of or attempt to hold accountable these political hacks is the same as criticism of the entire history and accomplishments of honest, hard-working and courageous FBI field agents.
To see Sessions buy in to this narrative is one more disappointment on a pile of disappointments relating to him.
Sure he wasn’t sleep walking when he said that?
Would you ever consider why he was nicknamed the silent assassin when he was US Attorney and Alabama AG? Just go ask the KKK.
Yeah it’s all innocent. But everything Trump does is sinister. That’s how it’s reported.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the White House living quarters and heard what Trump had to say about Sessions after that Senate seat in Alabama went to a Democrat. Sessions is the one guy I would blame for ruining the Trump presidency, and ruining our last chance to save this country.
What is it with this guy? In the face of strong evidence that a historic attempted coup-d’etat was conducted by the Bureau, he acts as if everything is hunky-dory.
I’ve been around Jeff Sessions at an Alabama GOP event. Even though he’s short, he always struck me as a powerful man. He wore the mantle of power easily back then.
Very confident, one of those guys that walked through a room and owned it.
In fact, my initial impression of him was that he was a coiled rattlesnake waiting to strike.
Of course, that was in 2000. I guess a lot changes in 17 years.
the FBI is not functioning at a high level
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His answer was to the function, not the reputation, which is what the President was addressing.
He has to defend his own agency. But he also has to root out the bad apples or fire the whole bunch.
