More than a quarter of California schoolchildren between 12 and 17 believe their peers see them as “gender nonconforming,” meaning those boys are perceived as more feminine and the girls as more masculine, according to a new study that is among the first of its kind in the U.S.
The study made public Wednesday found that the 27 percent of California children perceived as gender nonconforming are more than twice as likely to experience psychological distress, such as bullying, as their gender conforming counterparts.
The study did not find that gender nonconforming children have statistically significant higher levels of suicide, but psychological distress is a risk factor for suicide, said lead author Bianca Wilson.
The study, conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles, was among the first of its kind in the nation and the first representative survey measuring gender expression among California’s youth population, Wilson said. …

Well actually 75% of that quarter are non-conforming in order to conform. So That leaves 1/16 as being actually nonconforming, which is I think about the rate of homosexuality.
It's important to remember that the rebel and the conformist are different sides of the same coin of being a follower.
So called activists are the greatest conformers of them all. You might say they are the leaders of the conformers.

I live in California and with the wanabe cool parent it is cool to have a kid that is non conforming. I have watched as one parent decided that her three daughters 10, 13 16 had three different things going on with them...
The 10 year old was asexual, the 13 was bisexual and her 16 year old was a lesbian. this gender nonconformity started when she took in an abandoned kid who was possibly transgendered but more likely suffering from sex abuse and family rejection.
because of the abandoned girl the mother got involved with LGBT Community and there activism. I have a sister who I love dearly that is transgendered this women thought that I approved of what was going on. she got mad at me when she found out that I believed transgenderism was a mental illness and that most of her children’s sexual issues was her acting out and wanting to belong to a subculture.
