Mom of 6-Year-Old With Down Syndrome: It’s Okay if Babies With Down Syndrome are Aborted
LIFE NEWS ^ | Dec. 12, 2017 | Micaiah Bilger

Posted on 12/13/2017 10:21:50 AM PST by Morgana

More than six years ago, Emily Chesnut chose life for her daughter who has Down syndrome.

But the Cincinnati, Ohio mother has no problem with allowing other mothers to destroy their unborn babies’ lives because of a disability.

NPR in Atlanta, Georgia interviewed Chestnut as Ohio lawmakers move forward with the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act, a bill to prohibit abortions on unborn babies who have or may have Down syndrome. The bill is expected to land on Gov. John Kasich’s desk before the end of the year.

Many families of children with Down syndrome support the legislation. Chesnut and her family are an exception.

She told NPR that her 6-year-old daughter Nora has Down syndrome. Before she was born, Chesnut said Nora displayed signs of the genetic disorder, including a heart defect, but they chose life for her.

Here’s more from the report:

Chesnut opted not to get any further testing to confirm or rule out the disorder, because she says she was more concerned about her daughter’s heart condition.

“I had seen people with Down syndrome before … and I knew that they lived good lives,” she says.

Chesnut, who’s 40 and works in IT for a local hospital, believes women should be given a choice about whether to continue such a pregnancy. She and other abortion-rights advocates argue Down syndrome is being used to push an anti-abortion agenda in a handful of states including Ohio, which has passed several new abortion restrictions in recent years.

“Down syndrome is an easy face…Everybody knows somebody or has seen somebody or has a friend of a friend [with Down syndrome],” Chesnut says. “So I really think Down syndrome is just kind of being the pawn to the bill – which is just restricting women’s choice.”

Children with Down syndrome are not pawns; they are the face of the deadly “choice” that Chesnut and other abortion activists are trying to push. That “choice” is to kill a child simply because he or she has Down syndrome. It’s deadly discrimination, eugenics in modern form.

Studies indicate unborn babies with Down syndrome are targeted for abortions at very high rates. A CBS News report earlier this year shocked the nation by reporting that Iceland has an almost 100-percent abortion rate for unborn babies with the genetic disorder.

The rate in France was 77 percent in 2015, 90 percent in the United Kingdom and 67 percent in the United States between 1995 and 2011, according to CBS. Some put the rate as high as 90 percent in the United States, but it is difficult to determine the exact number because the U.S. government does not keep detailed statistics about abortion.

If the legislation passes, Ohio would become the third state to pass a non-discrimination law for unborn babies with disabilities.

Many Ohio parents are urging support for the bill. One is Kelly Kuhns, a Plain City mother and nurse whose son has Down syndrome. Kuhns told the Columbus Dispatch that doctors suggested she abort her son, but she immediately refused.

Despite her resolve, she said the news of her son’s diagnosis troubled her, and the medical counseling did not help.

“They tell you of these horrific things that can happen, the different anomalies, cardiac issues,” she told the AP. “So you plan for the worst, and I really feel like you’re given a death sentence.”

Today, her son Oliver, 2, is doing well. Kuhns said he has more medical appointments than her other children, but he leads a “pretty normal life” otherwise.

Larry and Jackie Keough, whose daughter has Down syndrome, also testified in favor of the bill before a legislative committee vote in November, according to the Times Reporter.

“We ask each of you to support SB 164 that would stop the genocidal practice of aborting unborn children with Down syndrome,” Jackie Keough said. “By doing so, this can be a critical step to eliminate abortion based on individual genetic make up.”

Having worked for 20+ years in a major hospital I've had much contact with people with Downs Syndrome.I still recall that they were almost invariably sweet, gentle souls even when they were ill...their illness being why they were at our hospital.

I can easily imagine that taking care of them might be difficult because most of them probably need a lot of attention and guidance. But allowing them to die? Yikes!

I’ve had a lot of contact with Downs people and can say the same.
Which begs the question “Why these people?” “why do they want them dead?”.

We had to wait 40 some years for Charlie Manson to assume room temperature yet the most loving people on planet earth are murdered, executed without a trial. Will never understand it.

Mom of 6-Year-Old With Down Syndrome: It’s Okay if Babies With Down Syndrome are Aborted

My title:

Millions of Moms of Perfectly Healthy 6-Year-Olds: It's Okay If Perfectly Healthy Babies Are Aborted

Question: Why is this news? Why is it more "disturbing," "noteworthy," or "surprising" if the mother of a child with Down Syndrome is pro-abortion than if the mother of a perfectly healthy child says this - and millions do!

Regards,

Proving once again, that women are easily as evil as men are (if not more).

Years ago I dreamt, in one of those dreams where I can actually fly proficiently, that I was crossing this way and that across the countryside looking for a place where I could stand that the ground was not soaked in blood. But wherever I stood, even in houses, the stuff oozed up a foul stinking mess ... yes, stinking.

The whole time there was a menacing storm just on the horizon: black clouds, epic lightning and all.

When at last I stood in a home, it’s blood soaked carpet feeling like sopping wet shag carpet to my feet, I realized that the whole dream was about abortion.

I was immediately wide awake and saying “Thus says the Lord: shall a bloody nation not have blood from the Lord?”

(That was it, nothing more)

I can honestly say that I was as unhappy about saying that as I’d been miserable in the horrific dream.

BTW, I’ve never said THAT (”Thus says the Lord”) as it was said that night before of since.

Pete Garcia once wrote that nations are evil because they are full of people, and people are full of sin.

Seems about right. Every day the envelope gets pushed more & more.

First of all these babies are “on loan from God”. An abortion is killing one of God’s creations. Parents are caregivers not owners and will face the Ultimate Court of Judgment. Woe to those pro-abortionists. Even a vote for a baby killer politician has consequences.

You all know me and that I’ve been posting prolife/abortion stories for years now.

It’s not just women but sometimes men encourage or even force women to have abortions against their will. It goes both ways. Both sides of the isle have been guilty in this and I’ve read story after story after story.

Abortion is not “just women” or “just men” it’s all of us and all of us have to work to end it.

A fetus is a living person, perfect or not deserves life and protection. I would like to see abortion lovers treated the same way, such as:

How would this mom react if someone claimed she was not very good looking and had mental issues, and because of it the state could blow her brains out?

Another take is how does our abortion industry differ from Hitler’s death camps where some goon gets to decide who lives and dies?

“Will never understand it.”

I understand why Down Syndrome babies are aborted, although I am horrified by the reason. Down Syndrome babies are imperfect, and the world worships perfection. Downs babies may be sweet and adorable, but they are mentally retarded and they are not “cute” when they get older. Ambitious, driven people find out that instead of having smart, beautiful, healthy babies, they are going to have babies who will have mongoloid features, heart conditions, who will have IQs below 80...and they hit the eject button.

If you think I am defending abortion of Downs babies, I am not; I find it repugnant and believe it should be banned. However, I think we should be honest about what women who are pregnant with Downs babies are told and what they are thinking, so that we can counsel them honestly. The pressure they are under to abort from doctors and, yes, sadly, from many in their communities, is great. And their grief is real and, let's be honest, understandable. It's normal to hope to have a healthy baby, and it is tough to learn your baby will have Downs. If we want them to listen to us when we say, “Please don't murder your baby”, we have a better shot if we don't judge them too harshly when they talk about the dreams they have to let go of when they absorb the news their baby has Downs.

Why just prenatal abortion? Why not her 6 year old? I’m certain the death panels will settle that for us.

A family friend has a Down Syndrome daughter, and she is the sweetest and most fun-loving kid I have ever known. She is an utter delight. I don’t think I’ve ever known a kid that is just so full of joy.

I hope my post didn’t come across as I was implying you personally.

I have no doubt that multitudes of men have had their hand in forcing women to have abortions. Such is the world we live in unfortunately.
