Football Thoughts
Me | 3 Dec 2017 | Me

I remember when football was a man’s game. I mean a game played by real men not community organizers and feminists. Men who carried monikers like the mafia. Men who played with broken bones and strained muscles and played for the love of the game and of the violence of the game and didn’t really care if they got paid or not. Men like:

• Ed “too tall” Jones who once jumped up in the center of the uprights and blocked a field goal kick at the goal posts.
• Kenny “the snake” Stapler who had a great career as a quarterback and then became a record breaking kicker.
• Dick “night train” Lane who would have a cast placed on his arm before a game, not because his arm was broken but to use as a club.
• William "The Refrigerator” Perry who could play both offense and defense. On short yardage they would hand off to Perry and dare anyone on the defense to stop him.
• "Mean" Joe Greene who just didn’t give a damn what you thought. If you were a wuss you didn’t belong on the field.
• Jack "The Assassin" Tatum who would be sent in to get the opposition quarterback out of the game. And he often did.
• And half of the Raiders linemen had to be released on Sunday to play.

Ladies and gents, those were the glory days of football the likes we will never see again.

Bobby Layne who could throw 5 TDs, with a splitting hangover.

Don’t you mean George Blanda instead of Ken Stabler?

Remember when they started letting Women reporters in the locker room to do interviews? That’s when it started.

I truly am so p*ssed that the NFL has screwed up football for me! All I can say is I’m so HAPPY that College Football was amazing this year.

Now - on to Basketball and Hockey, LOL! Bite Me, NFL!

He said Ken “Stapler,” whoever the hell that is. I was a great admirer of Ken STABLER, who was a class act and fun to watch play the game. I don’t think Ken STABLER ever kicked a ball in his life, unless it was on the ground after a running back fumbled it and he was pissed.

But unfortunately you have to go back to the nineteen fifties to reach a time when it was not a thug's game . Tolerance by the fans brought about a natural degeneration which inevitably led to where football is now.

How much did the commissioner get paid back in the glory days? Probably not $50 million. Plus free health care for life. With $50 million you'd think he could foot his own damn health care bills.

If Vince coached today..

I doubt he'd last 2 minutes before being hectored out of the sport.

Leather helmets, or NO helmets would cut down on concussions. Nobody would lead with their head anymore.

I remember as a young college woman in NYC (17 years old) following my late, great pal, Patty, to Joe Namath’s pad where we’d hang out hoping for a glimpse of the man. How she loved him and all the hockey players of that era. How I’d hate to be a young girl following Kapernack...
