This is why my kids were not allowed to have a computer in their room.

From the article:

Police say that a note indicates Heaven might have been heading to California.

Tammy also wrote earlier tonight that Heaven's passport was missing.

Previously, Tammy wrote that Heaven suffers from bipolar disorder and might be off her medication.

Those with information are asked to call the Orange County, Texas sheriff's office at 409-883-2612.

For kids...flip phones only without internet access. Sometimes they do need to call home, bit they don’t NEED the rest. If your kid is that unstable, home school.

In the meantime, what a horror for this family. I hope they find her quickly, safe and sound.

My daughter, who was 14 at the time(2015), had just been given a phone because of school and sports activities.

Almost immediately we noticed close to 2000 texts to a number we didn’t know.

We confronted her and she said the number belonged to a 16 boy she meet over an app called Kik, which I had never heard of.

We had the telephone number and I managed to trace it to an address in California and then I found the number over Google was attached to a site called “Pop my cherry.com”

The dude that owned the phone was a 30 something named Juan.

I immediately contacted the local FBI office and the local police and switched out the smart phone for a basic phone.

I also waited for this jerk to call and when he did I told him I knew his name, address, and employer and if he ever contacted my child again I would show up at his address (which I told him) and make sure he would not be able to call anyone again.

The local police told me this was not the first parental report on a guy named Juan who was active on Kik.

Kids are naïve and parents must be vigilant. And armed.

They now fear she may have been abducted or ran away by a man she met on social media

Wow. Really? Was that written by a 7th grader? Wouldn't an educated person write that sentence a bit differently?

"They now fear she may have been abducted by, or has run away with, a man she met on social media..."

I hate to say it but you really have to teach a certain degree of cynicism and distrust to your kids at a very young age. You can start by helping the youngsters to analyze advertising that is directed toward them. Humans use many of the same techniques and worse. Online “friends” was a difficult subject with our daughter years ago and little has changed. You’ve got to be tough to survive and an addiction to “make believe” can be literally fatal.
