(Spring Run) -- A construction worker was killed when his backhoe was struck by a car on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Fannett Township at 4:15 a.m. Oct. 10, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Newville.
Police said Robert W. Marchetti, 63, of Drums, was driving the backhoe loader from the median to the south berm, at mile marker 197.4 between the Willow Hill and Blue Mountain interchanges, when the rear bucket was struck by a 2007 Volkswagen traveling east in the left lane.
The driver of the car, Peter J. Awadallah, 21, of Jackson, N.J., and a passenger, were both flown to hospitals, according to the report. Marchetti was pronounced dead by Franklin County Chief Deputy Coroner Paul T. Reed.

Stuff like this . . . I’ll bet the driver of the car was speeding in a construction zone. In PA, he should have been doing no more than 45 mph, their standard work zone speed limit.
I’m glad I don’t speed in construction zones anymore.
You’re all about the Turnpike today...
Peter Awadallah? Sounds like one of Hussein Obama’s imports.
Smackin’ a backhoe bucket at speed .. prolly not much of that VW left for pictures.
People are in such a rush to get wherever these days. I dread driving now.
I take Rt.202 to work just outside Philly, and people go 90 through construction zones. 0530 Philly people routinely go 100mph on 202 & 76.
What remained of the VW probably could have fit into the rescue chopper.
And the battle to get from 76 to 202 ... impatient fools run up the left and cut in at speed
Absolutely, in the turnpike rest stops, there are signs that show a construction worker in the roadside, with two bullets stating - if you hit me at under 45 MPH I might live with a few broken bones, but you over 45 MPH you take my life, or words to that effect.
It’s the “Sure kill” expressway...
Someone was on a Smoke Break ?
Because Peter is such a common name for Muslims?
If the two in the car were flown to hospitals they must have been in pretty bad shape. They don’t start those choppers up for broken legs.
He must have been flying low in order to kill a person on a backhoe. Backhoe operator might have been thrown off.
One person dead and two others in unknown conditions because someone was in a hurry.
Speed limits are posted for a reason.
Caution rarely causes death.
That road runs both ways though.
No, but Awad-Allah is a common name for Muslims. I’m not sure if I found a photo of this guy or not, but I found dozens of guys with that last name, and they all look like Pakistanis.
I'm with you — a muslim probably, and scum bucket most definitely.
I drive 78 to 81 to Virginia every other week. There are construction zones all across Pennsylvania.
I drive through the zones at 45 mph, and it adds about eight minutes to a five hour trip. Small price to pay.
Don’t think that’ll ever change.
Two people in the VW and neither saw the backhoe? Is it twilight at 4:15 up there? dark? still daylight? (it’s 5:20 here and it’s already dark)
