DENTON COUNTY -- A Dallas Police Department officer has been arrested and accused of stealing hundreds of dollars in groceries from a Walmart store in Denton County.
Northeast police officers were called to the Walmart in Cross Roads, Texas at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a theft.
Employees told police that the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Christopher Hankins, left the store with close to $830 in groceries without paying, all while wearing a Dallas Police Department jacket.
Hankins told officers that he panicked thinking his car had been stolen, so he went outside with his grocery cart. Officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and the store manager told them that Hankins had been shopping in the store for about three hours while acting suspicious.
Northeast police took away Hankins' badge, ID and service weapon. He was arrested and taken to the Denton County jail.
Dallas PD said Wednesday that Hankins, who had been with the department since April 2014 and was assigned to the North Central Patrol Division, has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

$830 in one cart? His tastes in groceries must run heavily toward alcohol.
That’s the Wal-Mart we liked to use when we lived in Denton even though it was miles further than one close by to us. Better store and better selection.
I’m thinking steaks and seafood. That Wal-Mart only has beer and wine, no spirits.
3 hours at a Walmart? Hasn’t he been punished enough?
That’s a cop? Wow! He looks really good in an orange jump suit. A natural really.
He sure doesnt look like a typical police Officer with that personal grooming.
Do they sell prime rib and lobster at Walmart ?
When shopping to fill the freezer with meat, my cart can run about $300. Of course, it’s only filled with soon to expire and sale packages. He’s going for the expensive cuts.
No one can see their car in the parking lot. No one “strolls” out when in a “panic.”
Of course he has. Gotta protect them "public servants". Especially Union ones.
Someone did hit my antique Mercedes while I was in the store at that other Wal-Mart. A Gladys Cravitz type of older lady was there to point out the offender for me.
I dont think THAT dude needs to be a cop...
Out here in CA though that would be an infraction...
Yeah, he must have been out to stock the freezer. Looks like a growing boy...
“$830 in one cart? His tastes in groceries must run heavily toward alcohol.”
Pharmacy and personal care are next to grocery.
A few of packs of Fusion ProGlide5’s can start to add up!

That's what should have happened to the UCLA basketball thugs when they arrived home...
There is so much corruption when it comes to government employees. From the top down.
Used to know a guy who was a home builder. A storage container on site was getting repeatedly broken into and power tools stolen. Turned out to be County (Contra Costa IIRC) sheriff. Got caught when a city cop was checking on a pawn shops inventory.
Prices in grocery stores have shyrocketed. Thats probably just fruits and vegetables. Lol.
