McLennan County spent about $562,000 for sheriffs deputies overtime during the first Twin Peaks trial.
Commissioners said the county is still in good shape financially, despite having spent half its countywide contingency in the first two months of the fiscal year.
After approving about $440,000 for the sheriffs office two weeks ago to pay overtime related to the trial, commissioners approved $122,000 more for the same purpose Tuesday from the countywide contingency line item.
There is $532,000 left of the original $1,016,000 in the countywide contingency line item, County Auditor Stan Chambers said. The countys fiscal year 2018 started Oct. 1.
This should be the last move needed to cover overtime expenses from the trial, said Frances Bartlett, first assistant county auditor. The trial ended with the jury deadlocked on all three charges against Jacob Carrizal, president of the Dallas Bandidos chapter, related to the May 2015 shootout that left nine dead.
Commissioners Ben Perry and Will Jones said they hope the sheriffs office plans to reevaluate its security measures after the first trial, which took an effort unprecedented for the county. It remains unclear when the next Twin Peaks trial will be.
Bill the Waco PD.
Odd, you’d think dedicated public servants would forgo overtime, which is common in the private sector. Of course most cops belong to unions. In fact there are now more unionized government employees than exist in private sector America.
Karma. Serves them right for the corruption and injustice occurring.
Bill the DA.

I hope the taxpayers in that county are really rich because they are going to need to be once the dust settles, the police and DA’s office are paid, and especially once the civil suits are paid. They will either need to be really rich or really broke and filing for bankruptcy.
I hope it isn’t the latter because I want to see all those who were wronged by this debacle compensated fairly.
No Christmas Party for Waco cops and DAs
Apparently you forgot that about 200 gangsters rode into Waco and proceeded to have a shootout at a family plaza on a Sunday endangering many innocent women and children and the massacre was stopped by the LE.
“I hope it isnt the latter because I want to see all those who were wronged by this debacle compensated fairly.”
LOL! You are wanting the drug-running pedophile gangsters to be compensated? ROTFLMAO!
Unbelievable that we have supporters of gangs on this conservative board.

A few Bandidos rode to a scheduled meeting and were ambushed by some Cossacks affiliated with law enforcement. Most of the 200 had nothing to do with it. Renya wants to boost his political career off of this.
List the defendants who have been convicted of such.

ROTFLMAO!
So a ‘few’ bandidos were ambushed but eight Cossacks were killed and only one bandido!!!!!!!!!!
Really! All those arrested and charged were affiliated with either the Bandidos or the Cossacks!!!!!!!!!
List those that were arrested and charged that were NOT affiliated with either the Cossacks or Bandidos.
List the Bandidos and Cossacks that did NOT have child porn on their cellphones.
Gangsters, huh?
List the defendants who have been convicted of such.
It seems the police did most or all the killing, arrested everyone without individual cause, have acted corruptly at every turn. Not saying the victims or those charges are innocent, but from what I read the cops, prosecutors, and judges have abused their positions.
Hey, jerkoff, you sling the accusations, you back it up for once. Name ONE.
