When Apple unveiled the iPhone X in September, it seemed the tech giant had finally addressed one of the most common complaints about iPhones: Their propensity for the screen to shatter when dropped.
Apple said the glass on its three new iPhonesthe iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone Xwould be tougher than not just its predecessors, but all other smartphones out there.
The new generation of iPhones are reinforced by a steel and copper structure with the 50 percent deeper strengthening layer using our dual ion-exchange process, Apple said, adding that it is the most durable glass ever made in a smartphone.
Since its release on Friday the usual slew of tests and reviews that come with the launch of a new Apple product have inundated social media platforms. It didnt take long for Apples claims to be put in doubt, with some initial drop tests concluding that the iPhone X is the most breakable iPhone ever.
Electronics insurance firm SquareTrade conducted a series of drop tests and other durability experiments designed to see if Apples most expensive iPhone ever is also its most durable. In a video posted on Monday, the company gave the iPhone X a high risk breakability score, noting failures of the Home swipe and Face ID, as well as extensive shattering and splintering.
SquareTrade is using the drop tests as a way to push its insurance on iPhone X customers, saying in the video: Technology comes at a price. Drop it, and youll pay. But several other drop tests performed by independent bloggers since the iPhone X release have shown similar results.

How do you milk sheep?
Make a $999 dollar phone and sell it to them.
Could be, the iPhoneX already killed Malcolm Young, Della Reese and Charlie Manson.
Nobody is safe from the damned thing.
But I hear you can heal it by eating nothing but cauliflower and meditating.
FUD ping
planned obsolescence
Hate on the iPhone X all ya want, but the whole premise of this article is CRAP.
What do you expect from Newsweek - schilling for some insurance company.
I don’t hate Apple or iPhones.
This article was just one of many from different pubs, besides NW................
It’s a $1,000 supercomputer you can put in your pocket that just happens to have a phone app and cellular radio in addition to three other types of radios.
And David Cassidy?...................
My iPhone 6s was plenty fast until IOS 11 came out.
Now it’s 15 - 25 seconds to open an app.
I think it’s by design to try to force us to get an 9 - X.......
Hate it.....but what can I do? Not getting a new one.....
Its a $1,000 supercomputer you can put in your pocket...
...and is primarily used to:
- Send texts
- Make calls
- Play $5 games
- Painfully browse the internet
Apple is infamous for planned obsolescence. I have been bitten many times until I got smart and figured out their game.
And listen to music. :)
I don’t have that problem on my 6 Plus. Performance is the same as before.
So Apple marketing got it wrong? Should it be iSupercomputer(which it is not by a long shot).
It should be noted - grimly, that is - that Apple typically push out a new version of iOS right before new hardware is released.
It doesn’t take a paranoid conspiracy buff to note that each new iOS version places greater demands on the hardware (see also: Microsoft Windows) in what they hope will be a self-perpetuating cycle of upgrades to deal with the speed issues.
It’s also obvious that milepost versions (eg 9.0, 10.0) of iOS are invariably bug-ridden disasters. Apple has more money than God or the US Mint but they are quite content to let their hapless, helpless user base be a worldwide army of beta testers. And when an obvious, insurmountable bug is encountered what is the advice or action from Apple with their trillions of dollars? They tell you ‘go post something in the user forums.’ THE USER FORUMS?!?! Since when is a stranger across town or on the other side of the globe responsible for the software and/or hardware that Apple sold?
The rapid, steep drop in problems is also probably down to these bugs being resolved although for reasons unknown Apple is not very forthcoming about specifics other than to say ‘fixes and improvements.’
I say all this as an Apple iPhone owner but one who is quite accustomed to their pattern of behavior.
I couldnt imagine owning any iPhone without a Lifeproof or equivalent case for it.
wow. wonder what happened to mine.
Then charge them another $600 for a maintenance contract.
Rumor has it the sheep had to have their udder’s bored out because the flow was so high.
