Her outfit wound up causing widespread outrage because the sunflower had been adopted the year before by anti-China protesters.
To drive her point home, Perry also waved a Taiwanese flag during the concert in show of support for the country, which has been butting heads with China for years over its independence.

so, I’m not going to shed any tears for her. perfectly adequate entertainer. she just can’t keep her politics to herself, a la taylor switf, who is way hotter, and a much better singer.
I’m glad that Katy Perry did something right that time. Normally she’s an uneducated leftist but maybe she remembered the massacre of Tiannamen Square, or the killings in Tibet, or the Red Chinese drugs killing Americans.
Whatever the reason, I’m glad she did it. Hope she stays on a rational thought trip from now on.

There was a Republic of China, from about 1911/14 till 1949, no matter how dysfunctional it was.
There was a Republic of Vietnam until Hanoi conquered it.
What there never was, was a “real” “Peoples Republic of China”. The CCP never represented the “people” because they were conquerors and perpetual communist dictators.
THe same for the “German Democratic Republic”, all the other “Peoples Republics of ### communism” in Africa and Asia, Cuba and now Venezuela/Bolivia. But the times they are achangin’.
