LA JUNTA, Colo. (CBS4) – An admitted murderer was elected to serve on the East Otero School Board in La Junta.
Thomas Seaba pleaded guilty to murdering a fellow Marine in the 90s. A detective on the case said Seaba shot the victim five times.
Seaba moved back to Colorado after getting out of jail and got a job with La Junta’s Wastewater Department.
“Although, it was obvious a set of horrific mistakes compounding on one another which led to me serving time in prison,” said Seaba.
The East Otero School District’s superintendent, Rick Lovato, said “We researched to see what the criteria was. It is not outside of the rights for a person with a felony conviction to run for the office.”
The only thing that would bar someone for running for school board in Colorado is a sex crime against a child.
Lovato says the district will not interfere with the voters’ decision.
His past was well known during the school board race.

This is Colorado so they’ll say he served his time.
At least he’s not a child molester. But they may need to change that rule since it’s discriminatory.
As they say ‘Gray is the new white’, apparently Colorado is the new California. Colorado done been ‘Californicated’.
Possibly he was found guilty of “murder” but there were a lot of extenuating circumstances. Maybe the other guy started it. Maybe it was self-defense. Maybe someone else was at risk. Maybe he had a lousy lawyer. Unfortunately the article does not give any details whatever.
I find it hard to belief that he would have been elected if this was a real murder in the ordinary sense.
IF one smokes enough of that “legalized dope” out there, I guess you’d vote for anything. Geez, these people are totally out of it.
I think the Texas Democrat Party had a transexual who was a convicted murderer leading things in the 1990s.
Maybe it was just party leader in one city, I don’t recall and search engines aren’t being helpful on this matter.

Shooting someone five times is not a mistake. This guy is a bloody ass murderer. He should have never been let out of a cage.

Possibly the entire electorate (those who voted) was all “weeded up”!
My county school board is headed up by a serial student humper.
In fact, that’s how she wound up with her husband.
He knocked her up...but she’s not slowing down.

I found another story where the guy tells his story. In short, gun sale between the two, gun gets dropped and it goes off as he tries to catch it. After that he blacks out and has no memory. Apparently during that blackout he leaves, returns, shoots the guy four more times in the head.
That’s a pretty big sea story to sell. He pled guilty to murder II rather than go to trail for murder I.
It doesn’t say what kind of discharge he got, but apparently it didn’t keep him from working for the water district.
