Good description. The site of the Kansas, Little House on the Prairie recreation, is just to the north and we visited that and drove south through that cattle and ranch area this September.

We were also motivated by my wife’s recent reading of The Killers or the Flower Moon about the murder of Osage Indian’s early in the 20th century over schemes to get the oil rights some of them had. Great but little known bit of history.

The Irvings [Canada] own a good chunk of Maine. Lots and lots of softwoods.

Must be why they call it ....

Well good for them! I had never heard of them until her show, but I love watching them on the ranch!
They are very down to earth and humble considering that wealth.

The fictional Ponderosa ranch included the entire north shore of Lake Tahoe and yes, the TV Ponderosa was in Nevada.

I remember one episode where it was stated that the Ponderosa was “1000 square miles” in size. A square mile is 640 acres, so the fictional Ponderosa ranch would have been 640,000 acres.

True, and there is no way you could/can ride a horse from the ranch house to Virginia City for lunch - unless you start the day before. Not without killing it.

I live in Maine.

The state tree is the pine tree. Lots of spruce, balsam, and hemlock, too.

There is plenty of hardwood here as well....some oak, but most of the hardwood consists of maple, beech, birch and ash.

Maine is the most heavily forested state in the country. Some of those trees came crashing down, taking power lines with them, in a wind storm eight days ago. Nearly the entire state lost their electricity....some people still don’t have it back. Fortunately, I only lost power for four hours on Oct. 30th.

Ted Turner was once asked about his 10,000 acre compound in Patagonia and what it was for. He said, "that's where I'll go when the revolution starts.

That was just something I read a long time ago. A search turned up this.

There are a few episodes where they talk about going to town for Lunch. When I moved to the area I realized how crazy that was.
