My first vehicle was a 1960 Plymouth Fury.
It looked very out-of-date when I got it in 1967 to commute to college. Back then, body styles changed frequently.

One thing I enjoy about the Perry Mason re-runs is all the old 50 and 60s, cars, and even some older than that.

My father used to say that those cars were incredible - power, luxury and a 6-body trunk. Of course, I’m originally from New Jersey....

‘59 Caddy was my favorite car as a youth - and you could pick them up cheap right up until I could have actually afforded one, and then the prices skyrocketed. Eldorado has even more chrome, if you can believe that.
I still wouldn’t mind one, but my tastes have changed as I’ve gotten older. These days I need a truck, and if I had to choose a second car, it would be something a little more sporting than anything Cadillac built back then. Maybe as a third car...

If I’m not mistaken, I think 58 was the peak year of big detroit for that time period, much like 78 was. My dad had a 78 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham in white with red leather interior. It was like a moving living room ... gorgeous car...

And pretty soon even some of the cheapest, cheesiest cars on the market all had big fins, capitalizing on the bizarre notion that because Cadillacs had fins, any car that had fins must be wonderful like Cadillacs - and giving rise to the famous "Cadillac phenomenon" in politics - liberals who think that because we should stick up for deserving underdogs, sticking up for all underdogs makes them automatically deserving.......
Or, as one of my black friends used to say, "PONTIAC really stands for Poor Old N***** Thinks It's a Cadillac".....

My Mother had a Beige 59 Coupe De Ville.
She sold that and got a Gold 63 Coupe De Ville.
I took my Driving Test in that Car. 19 feet long and drove like you were on a cloud, a pretty fast cloud especially with that 390 and that big old Steering Wheel.
At Barrett Jackson Las Vegas last month there was a beautiful Black on Black 59 Coupe De Ville. If I was there I may have tried to buy it. Gotta have one before I die.
