Should You Call in a Noise Complaint on a Family With a Crying Baby?
PJ Media ^ | October 25, 2017 | ARNOLD CARREIRO

You’ve had a long day, and you have to get up early tomorrow morning. You’re tucked into bed and ready for a good night’s sleep when you hear it: Your neighbor’s baby is wailing away once again. Your sleep-deprived mind is split between two options: either do your best to ignore the infant’s unending crying fit, or file a noise complaint and let the police handle the problem. Many people have had to deal with this same scenario, and some folks on Quora shared their own stories on how they’ve dealt with it, but what would YOU do?

Definitely start a blog on it, even though Quora already dealt with it, then excerpt it on FR to get hits.

He referred to five hours of nightly crying.

He’s lying,and he’s a jerk who should move.

How will a noise complaint do anything to fix the issue? It’ll just make a couple of already frazzled neighbors with a newborn angry with you. I assume the situation is an apartment - I’d just consider moving or get some noise-cancelling headphones for the night.

As the dad of a kid who had terrible colic when we lived in an apartment, I sure am glad nobody called the cops on me.

With all the natural disasters this complaint seems quite trivial. People living the Big Thompson Canyon in Colorado where the big flood was have been living with closed roads and heavy equipment noise in their neighborhood for years.

Works like a charm; no hassles, no conflicts.

I’ve called in nuisance complaints on families with a crying blogger.

50 bucks on Amazon Prime.

You can have it in your house tomorrow, and you won't hear a thing.

Children are a blessing from The Lord ... which makes them utterly intolerable to selfish pukes (sadly an accurate description of many Americans, it’s how trash ideologies like progressivism — which is mainly generous with other people’s means as well as being entitled — prosper on one extreme).

It isn’t that they cannot be annoying, but being annoyed and tolerating is an entirely different matter than with those so full of themselves that they will not tolerate them.

If a crying baby puts you so far out that you think you should use the law to do something about them then the problem is with you, not them. Get over yourself.

Talk to the baby's parents to feel out whether there is abuse or neglect going on, if so make a call.

If not then take the polite route - relate a story about how a baby hearing echoes of its own crying can compound the issue causing even more crying. Putting up tapestries or the like to deaden the sound can really help the baby to find calm.

That serves the dual purpose of providing a solution while also informing them that neighbors are well aware of the noise without having to say so directly.
