CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Two students are in police custody, accused of plotting to attack students and staff at Etowah High School in Cherokee County, reports CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV.
Police identified the suspects as Alfred Dupree and Victoria McCurley, both 17.
Acting on a tip, Cherokee investigators served a warrant on both of the students' homes, authorities said.
They said they found a homemade incendiary device and an undetermined powder substance at McCurley's house, and a journal at Dupree's house in which details were laid out of an attack against the school.
Principal Robert Horn said local authorities were notified of a potential threat against the school, which prompted the investigation.
Classmates told WGCL the pair didn't have many friends.
The school district sent the station a statement saying in part, "Wwe recognize these as very serious charges, and that will be reflected in the severe administrative disciplinary actions the School District will take against these students. We will not tolerate violence of any kind at our schools. We deeply appreciate the community member who reported information to the Woodstock Police Department tip line that ultimately led to these arrests by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office."
Both suspects were charged as adults with, among other things, attempted murder, making terrorist threats, and intent to commit arson.
Cherokee County is quickly becoming the armpit of NW Metro Atlanta.
Victor or Victoria?
Can someone be charged with attempted murder if no attempt was made?
This is why home school or online school might be highly preferable to old model schools.
This could happen anywhere, anytime by the disaffected or anyone else who may have a beef with whatever.
Grrrr. About an hour from here, in an area I particularly like.
Which one is the he and the she? Or is a heshe.
“Both suspects have been charged as adults with the following:
Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder x3
Terroristic Threats and Acts x4
Criminal Attempt to Commit Arson and Possession and/or Transportation of Destructive Device/Explosive with Intent to Kill, Injure or Destroy any Public Building.
Both are expected to make their first court appearances at 12 p.m. on Thursday.”

“”we recognize these as very serious charges, and that will be reflected in the severe administrative disciplinary actions the School District will take against these students””
Someone is dumb enough to think the school district will do the disciplining of these two? Shaking head!!!
They do resemble teens who have been tried for murder of their own parents in the past, don’t they? Reminds me of Starkweather and his girlfriend..from eons ago!
Bizarre. I didn’t think “teens” looked like that
Maybe it also might cool this man’s brain. He has been out in the sun too long!

Message from the Superintendent: Etowah HS Arrests
Category : CCSD
10/25/17
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the Superintendent, this message is in response to todays arrest of two of our students that is understandably generating significant media attention.
Two Etowah High School students were arrested by the Cherokee Sheriffs Office on very serious charges related to alleged plans to harm students and staff at their school.
We will not tolerate violence or threats of violence at any our schools. This stand will be reflected in the severe administrative disciplinary actions we will take against these students.
Our community is strongest when we work together to keep all of us especially our children safe. We deeply appreciate the community member who reported information to the Woodstock Police Department tip line that ultimately led to these arrests by the Cherokee Sheriffs Office.
Our School District Police Department and administrative staff assisted with the investigation in a continuation of our longtime partnership with the Sheriffs Office to maintain a safe and secure environment for our students and employees.
We understand your concerns and why you want more information, but we will continue to defer to the Sheriffs Office to release details when, and if, appropriate, in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
We take all threats to the safety and security of our students and employees very seriously. Anyone with information about threats is asked to immediately report it to police. CCSD School Police has a dedicated hotline for students and parents to use any time: 770.720.4061.

Considering how large the county is....l
You pick two headline making stories and I would suggest Marietta gets stuff like that routinely and no one blinks
Don’t know where in Georgia you live. We in Cherokee like it just fine. You can feel free to stay put
Find out which teacher brainwashed them.
“The pair didn’t have many friends”
Even less now.
I live north of Woodstock - the county has gone to pot since 2012 with meth & drug & gang related crime. I’m not saying Cobb is better, but what I am saying is that Cherokee isn’t what the country-club elitists want you to think it is.
