A fearless goat-herding dog who refused to abandon his flock amid the deadly wildfires in California miraculously survived the flames that torched the property completely.
Roland Tembo Hendel said his family and he were shocked to see that their dog, Odin, his sister Tessa, and their eight bottle-fed goats survived the deadly Tubbs Fire that destroyed his property in Sonoma County.
He explained in a lengthy Facebook post that's gone viral how they had to leave Odin behind along with the goats after rushing to pack up their other dogs and cats to flee the fast approaching fire.
'By 11:10 we could see the first of the flames across the valley,' he wrote on his Facebook page.

Roland Tembo Hendel is a scumbag who is trying to profit off the bravery and heroism of his dog, Odin. I have asked the Daily Mail to publish the address of the veterinary facility that has been providing Odin’s medical care. I won’t contribute to his crowdfunding campaign to pay Odin’s medical bills AND to help him rebuild. A man who would save his family pictures and not take his dog and other animals because he was stupid and didn’t leave sooner, does not deserve my support.

You are very wrong. My sister has goats & the same breed of dog to protect them. The dog WILL NOT go into the house or their office at night or in inclement weather..in other words any time the goats might be in danger.
They are bred to protect their “charges” and they do so spectacularly...don’t know what they are thinking...but it must be similar to a parent not leaving a child alone in a potentially dangerous situation.
When he said that the dog wouldn’t have come with them he wasn’t kidding (no pun intended for those who might get it...lol).
Would love to know how they survived the fire; wish the dog could talk:)
Maybe the dogs dug a tunnel.
I read that wolves will sometimes dig tunnels to hide in during a fire.
Maybe there was some kind of cave nearby.
