Norway, a world leader of zero-emission vehicles, on Thursday proposed a “Tesla tax” aimed at cutting a tax advantage granted to large electric cars, in a heavily criticized move.
Electric cars, which have hitherto been exempted from heavy taxes imposed on other vehicles, accounted for 20 percent of new registrations in the Nordic country since the beginning of this year, an unprecedented market share in the world.
In a 2018 finance bill presented to the parliament on Thursday, the right-wing minority government suggested removing a one-off tax exemption for new electric cars weighing more than two tonnes.
The proposal was immediately dubbed the “Tesla tax” because it primarily affects the high-end models made by the American manufacturer. Buying a new Tesla X would cost about 70,000 kroner (€7,500) more. […]

I’ve seen a few Model S cars on I-80 near me, usually going to/from Mount Airy.
I haven't seen too many Tesla's in Georgia, but there are a lot of drivers in this state that like to go 80 (or more).
Very many drivers exceed 80 on I-80. And that’s in spite of the easternmost part of that highway in PA having speed limits of 50 and 55 mph.
Unexpected. Unprecedented. Shocking. More buzz-adjectives from the know nothings.
And no one in the Norwegian press thought that government taxation could change public behavior?
Now that's really shocking.
Leftists GO NUTS when I tell them that no matter how it’s powered, taking 5000 lbs. of glass, steel, and Lithium a few blocks to the supermarket to buy a quart of milk is wasteful.
After you incentivize it, tax it.
