Can California Solve Pot’s Pesticide Problem?
Monterey Herald ^ | 09/26/17 | Lisa M. Krieger

California cannabis consumers will soon have two choices: clean, legal and pricey — or dirty, illicit and cheap.

Think Whole Foods vs. El Chapo.

The big difference will be the amount of pesticides in your weed. That’s because starting Jan. 2, when California’s vast legal marijuana market opens, all cannabis must be tested — and most chemicals will be banned.

Much of California’s cannabis is tainted, including the “medicinal” stuff. But soon state-sanctioned weed may become the greenest in the nation.

But here’s the catch: Most growers — particularly the get-rich-quick newbies and industrial-scale Big Weed wannabes — aren’t ready to grow marijuana without pesticides. And then there are all those illegal grows in California’s vast and remote public forests, often set up by Mexican drug cartels.

Where will all their weed go if it can’t pass muster with state labs? Much of it will end up in the hands of that sketchy guy on the street corner, selling it for far less than your local dispensary, growers say.

“It’s much harder to produce clean cannabis. It takes discipline, time and paying attention,” said Brian McCall, owner and operator of Blue Belly Farms, which grows pesticide-free cannabis in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

“There are so many ways to fail,” he said. “You can’t sell it if it’s not in compliance with the new state law. The stuff that fails is going to go to the black market — or across state lines.”

Remember the Paraquat weed killer scare in MJ forty three years ago?

When you’re shopping for the stuff that generates smoke that you must force yourself to inhale because every built-in defense of your body is working to immediately and violently expel it, try to find the “natural” stuff.

Do dopers really care? If you’ll WILLINGLY put toxins into your body, what possible harm could a few more do?

‘Whole Foods v. El Chapo,’ LOL!

LOL. Now that California is in the dope dealing business they are trying to corner the market.

LOL!!! That was my violent reaction to cigarettes when I first tried one. And that is the reason I could never smoke dope. My lungs and body reject inhaling smokey pollution.

Most people no longer need to smoke cannabis to consume it. One of the huge benefits of legalization.

These days people typically inhale vapor or eat it. They sell self-contained inhalers but there are also medical grade vaporizers for directly vaporizing the dry flowers at an exact temperature best for the patient.

The more natural the better. Especially for very sick people

Sounds like California is going to manage to fail at selling marijuana.

What's the old joke?

If you put the government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in five years there’d be a shortage of sand.

When it opens? I got news for them, it is already way open. You can smell it everywhere.

There are health benefits in cannabis and hemp. I don’t recommend smoking it to get those benefits though because there are heath negatives to smoking it.

There are a lot of different cannabidiol (cbd) oils that have positive health properties. Hemp is actually better because it doesn’t have the hallucinogenic cbd oils so you get the benefits and don’t get high. They include nerve pain relief, blood pressure help, a calmative effect for anxiety, anti-nausea help, anti-cancer properties. They have non-high products for both people and pets, as all mammals can respond to cannabidiol oils.

“Do dopers really care? If you’ll WILLINGLY put toxins into your body, what possible harm could a few more do?”

There are no toxins in natural cannabis and it has no verified LD50. Meaning no animal has ever been damaged in a lab under any dose. Even those doses physically impossible to consume outside a lab setting. The DEA estimated one would need to consume over 1500 POUNDS in one sitting to achieve toxicity. Cannabis is less toxic than water!

Dopers? Many good people consume cannabis as a natural homegrown replacement for big pharma’s toxic drugs. Countless drugs that doctors prescribe are FAR more toxic, addictive and impairing than anything made from cannabis. Cannabis is outlawed in most states yet in all those states they can legally prescribe heroin and meth to kids!

I have no problem with people using it for medicinal purposes. In fact, Glaucoma is a big deal in my family, and you betcha I’ll use it if and when I need it! :)

No, it can’t, because the offenders are a protected criminal class of illegals.

Destroy California, illegals! We want you to be completely happy so you don’t come to our states.

I remember people who were sickened by smoking weed that had Paraquat sprayed on it. None of them died from it though.
