“Moesia Inferior”

Where everybody had an inferiority complex.

“We’ll never be as good as Moesia Superior.”

Whistling Dixie

No but 1900 years later Red Barber was:

Since we’re on the subject of Rome a friend of mine recently turned me on to Dan Carlin’s podcast series called Hardcore History. Can’t recommend it highly enough. I started with his discussion of Caesar’s conquest of Gaul called The Celtic Holocaust, then his series on WWI and am now almost done with his series on the fall of the Roman Republic.

On this date in A.D. 1776, Nathan Hale was hanged as a spy (possibly caught because his Tory cousin recognized him). There is some disagreement on the exact phrasing of his famous last words, but something along the lines of "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."

This line may have been inspired by verses in Joseph Addison's play Cato.

Moesia Inferior must have been on the wrong side of the tracks.
They just didn’t measure up.

Thanks for using A.D. instead of the pedestrian CE. Class, sophistication and respect for the past reign at Free Republic!

I read about 2000 pages after watching Claudius on PBS and reading I Claudius and Claudius The God. i started with Livy up to the second war with Carthage and then read two or three authors concurrent till the year of the 4 emperors (AD 69). I still have some books around on later period but suffered burnout. Watch all the mini-series and movies I can find on Rome.
