I'm really skeptical about this type of assistance. It seems too close to death panels and encouraging patients to "move along" and make space for the next ones.

A virtual agent that helps people have conversations about their funeral plans, wills and spiritual matters is set to be trialled in Boston over the next two years with people who are terminally ill.

An AI to consult on 'spiritual' matters and to help me decide if I should kill myself. What could go wrong?

Next we will work on your will. First, would you like to donate 10% of your estate to Chatbot Corp?

Uhm...no

You said "no". Would you like it to be 15%?

Uhm...no, I mean...

20%?

I uhm...no...<cough>...

Donation level to Chatbot Corp set to 100%, to verify please make a sound...

No! I mean...I didn't mean to make a sound...<croak>

Thank you, have a good after-life. Noting time of death, and 100% of estate to be donated to Chatbot Corp...

Maybe nursing homes will soon be mechanized and computerized like some of the fast food places. Someone should write a book about it called, maybe, “Processing Hillary’s Old Girls.”

I see this article and all I can think about is a Dalek from Dr. Who screaming ‘EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINAAAATE!’.

I’m at death’s door. I’m seeking info in regards to my final few hours and dayS here on the earth.

And going on a chatbox with some anonymous stranger is an option?

Sad. Very sad.

Death Panel is right.

“Gee, Mr. 2nd. Your private assets and insurance benefits have been exhausted. Leaving only Social Security. But not to worry. I’ve scheduled your funeral and burial for the 16th of next month.”

(END CHAT)

It would just be my luck to get one that just says “Off yourself, off yourself, off yourself, etc etc etc.

I am open to conversing with chatbots who can supply before-the-fact winning lottery numbers.

Yep...I agree....since when did we need ‘outside’ the family help for these decisions, or didn’t know where to go to ‘privately’ discuss these personal matters......

I smell a rat.....

This actually hit home because I worked on a hospital computer project to give advice to the parents of leukemic children. The idea was to get fathers, in particular, to interact with it when they were alone as it was assumed men would do better talking with machines than with people.

Obviously it will be programmed to encourage the old folks to die. Oh, not right away. The first versions will be real nice and kind, and not tell the old people to take a pill and die. Later versions will.

Elderly Whites will be told to take the pill before all those “oppressed” people.

Dump this idea now!

What the f*ck! making old folks type statements on a computer to get them to die? What they f*cking need is some human kindness. Enough with substituting electronics for human contact.

Machines are NOT neutral. They have the biases of their programmers, and in the case of AI, the biases are built in based on both the data sets selected and the “training” they receive.
No “euthanasia” chat bot is neutral - it is programmed to affirm the decision. Just as a pro-life chatbot will say here’s where you can get help to keep the baby.
