I read an excerpt of Quinn's book in which she was talking about a couple of hexes her mother had put on people. What I read is that two people died suddenly, soon after her mother put hexes on them. Now, I've never given “hexes” a thought in my life before. However, I do believe the Devil exists, and I would never do what Sally Quinn confesses she did, which were basically prayers to the Devil: lit candles and named people she hoped would have bad things happen to them. Do I believe Quinn actually “caused” harm to come to those people? 99.9% sure she didn't, but I think she's as morally culpable as if she had been responsible.

A few years ago, I was appalled when I read Sally Quinn's cheerful recollections of having broken up Ben Bradlee’s marriage. Even decades later, she had no shame at all about what she had done. I recall also reading a column in which she bragged about having received communion at a Catholic church, even though she knew that, as a non-Catholic, she was not supposed to receive. I thought she was a bad person. Now, I believe she's straight up evil. It seems pretty clear that she believes hexes work, and that the only reason she stopped putting them on people is that she was afraid they'd start boomeranging on her.

All interesting. But she’s just a spoiled attractive chick from 1960. Daddy was a CIA bigshot. She got the job with Bradlee as a writer. He asked what she had written and she replied “nothing”. Bradlee knew who her dad was. She undoubtedly crawled under the desk and got the job.
Then the 60s hit.
The “don’t trust anyone over thirty” thing hit right about when she turned 30.

Just another DC/CIA/sex ho socialite.
No magic, no spells. Just the ramblings of another rich uneducated bored woman who got on her knees to get to the top. It just as easily could have been her talking about alar on the apples or autism.

hmmm. Communion is for believers so for pagans it is meaningless. There are preparations for Christians but not pagans.
