Parisians protest 'genocide' of rats as city battles rodent infestation

By David Chazan, paris

Thousands of Parisians have signed a petition denouncing efforts to control a rat infestation as a rodent “genocide.”

The French capital is facing its worst rat crisis in decades, and rapid proliferation of the animals has forced several parks to close temporarily amid fears that children could be bitten or infected by disease.

Paris authorities are spending £14 million this year on “deratisation”.

But some residents have spoken out in defence of the creatures.

Influenced perhaps by the loveable rat Remy in Disney’s acclaimed 2007 film Ratatouille, 25,000 people have signed a petition to stop the “genocide” of the rodents.

Josette Benchetrit, a clinical psychologist who launched the petition at the end of last year, said: “Rat phobia is an unwarranted social phobia, like spider phobia. Give a rat a beautiful bushy tail and you’ve got a squirrel — an animal we love. These poor unfortunates are being mercilessly killed because they’ve been designated by society as scapegoats to be eradicated.”

If the media teaches us anything, it’s that with enough searching, you can find someone who advocates anything, supports any side of any argument, or will be adversely affected by something.

"..The French capital is facing its worst rat crisis in decades, and rapid proliferation of the animals has forced several parks to close temporarily amid fears that children could be bitten or infected by disease.."

This explains a lot. If they won’t deal with the rodent infestation, they will never address The Muslin infestation. France is doomed.

A photographer, Xavier Francolon, who spent two days documenting the rats’ comings and goings, said he was astonished that many people remained indifferent to them.
“People were sleeping on the lawn while rats chased each other right beside them,” Mr Francolon told the magazine Le Point. “Kids go up to them and chase them as if they were pigeons and picknickers munch on their meals as if they weren’t there.”
Rats are often seen in the streets of Paris at night, but Mr Francolon said: “What is surprising here is to see them coming out in broad daylight and approaching people who are picknicking without any fear.”
He said Parisians seem to have got used to the creatures. “They eat their pâté, drink their rosé or quaff their champagne right next to the rats.”
According to the newspaper Le Monde, the rat population of central Paris is estimated to number up to six million, about three for every resident, not including the suburbs which are home to millions more.

They watched Ratatouille? Let them watch “Willard” and they won’t be so keen on rats.

Did Trump not get the message through with his often repeated reading of “The Snake”?

The iconic line from Forrest Gump comes right to the top, again. But to the left’s icons of smart, the entire purpose of an analogy is lost. That is why instead of getting into arguments with them, I just end it by asking;

Do you walk to work, or carry your lunch?

25,000 signed the petition. What is the population of Paris? The greater Metro area is over 11 million. This petition doesn’t even merit a one paragraph story.

“Parisians protest ‘genocide’”
Lying headline. SOME Parisians protest ‘genocide’. The animal rights wackos. Normal Parisians want to get rid of the rats.
