Tebow said there have been 'a lot of learning moments' in his first season as a baseball player
Early next week, the 2017 minor-league regular season will come to an end, which means Tim Tebow's first year as a full-time baseball player with the Mets is nearly complete.
Tebow, who turned 30 in August, is currently hitting .222/.306/.344 with 23 doubles and eight home runs in 123 games split between two Class A levels. Considering he hadn't play baseball regularly since high school a decade ago, that is pretty impressive.
What's next for Tebow now that his season is nearly over? He's not sure, exactly, though he told the Associated Press he intends to return to the Mets and continue playing next season. Here's what he said:
"(The next step is) still something we're figuring out, but for me it'll be a lot of training," he said Thursday. "For me it'll be about working on training and building the muscle-memory where I can do it for two, five, seven days and continue to build a couple of weeks at a time."
So, nothing definitive yet on whether the 30-year-old Tebow could get a September callup to the out-of-contention New York Mets.
Tebow said this season has included "a lot of ups and downs, a lot of learning moments," and hey, that's true for all of us.
Maybe I'm just a cynic, but I think the chances of Tebow getting a September call-up are pretty good. The Mets are out of the race and they have two regular outfielders on the disabled list (Michael Conforto and Yoenis Cespedes), so roster space and a lineup spot are available.
If the Mets were to bring Tebow up for their final homestand, they'd get a nice little late season attendance and merchandise sales boost. This is the entertainment business, and Tebow generates an awful lot of buzz, whether you like it or not. With the Mets out of the race, there's nothing to lose and lots to gain.

But he’d make a pro team a #### of a lot of money :)
And that’s the name of the game in the end.
He shouldn’t be brought up. He’s not ready yet. But great athletes typically can excel in other sports. His age is against him, but he might just pull this off.
American sports has lost its soul and it desparetly needs a Tebow type.
Basic stats don’t tell the whole story. Tebow can hit pitchers who don’t take him seriously. That’s amazing for someone with his lack of experience. He needs ABs in winter ball.
But no major league team can afford to keep him on the 25-man roster just for extra ticket sales. He would have to play a role that helps them win.
If he was a slick defensive OFer and base-stealer (as was expected to be) he’d have a much quicker trip to MLB.
If you’re going nowhere in regards to the playoffs September is like pre spring training training. You can expand the roster with callups and see what the farm has produced. The regular season stats still count but your games are essentially meaningless other that playing a spoiler role to teams you are playing.

Right. Mets will face other out-of-it teams Phillies, Reds, and Braves, who will likely be putting out their own minor league pitchers. It would give Tebow an MLB taste with less risk of embarrassment. And certainly attract more fan interest.

Too bad he can’t pitch. A 30+ year old LHP making an MLB debut is not unprecedented.
A 30+ year old OF who doesn’t come from success in a foreign league is almost impossible.
If Tebow has gone trans he did a better job than Bruce/Caitlin. :)
Why would he not get a September callup? The Mets have already traded away anyone good and have pretty much depleted their farm system. There is room for Tebow, and he gives fans a reason to show-up.
Yep. Rosters have expanded from 25 to 40. And they have several OFers on the DL.
The problem might be that Tebow would have to be put on the 40-man roster, which could lead to an actual prospect being bumped off and claimed by another team.
September call-ups are also sometimes given to high draft picks that are a long way from ready for exactly the same reasons. Adds some interest and gives fans some hope, plus it lets the prospect know he’s considered a big deal.
Not a Gator fan here, but Tebow has always been a stand up guy, a good team player, and great competitor. And most important to me, a Christian.
