The definition of fascism has recently been changed to say that fascism is a right wing ideology. I did some research to find the correct and true definition of the words fascist and fascism.
Dictionaries post dated 2009 have the new liberal version of the definition of 'fascist'
A great piece by Ronald Reagan, on comparing fascism to liberalism....

Leftists would not know a real fascist if you hit them over the head with a bundle of sticks.
My Webster New World Dictionary (1957) says in part: a system of government characterized by rigid, one party dictatorship, forcible suppression of the opposition (unions, other, especially leftist , parties, minority groups, etc)....
Communists use the term “Fascist” to define anyone they disagree with.
Notice they always referred to Nazis as “Fascists”, even though the Fascists were from Italy. Why did they not call them “Nazis”? Because Nazi stood for “National Socialist”, and that would be admitting that they really were fellow Socialists.
Fascism ...Socialism ..Communism ..are all mostly a matter of degree.
But they all totalitarian.
Isms, in my opinion, are not good. A person should not believe in an ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, I dont believe in Beatles, I just believe in me. Good point there. After all, he was the Walrus. I could be the Walrus, Id still have to bum rides off of people.
Well, John Lennon was a A-hole but i get your point.
By the way is that a dude with the towel on their head?
“Fascism” (properly self so called) was “right wing” historically because Joseph Stalin said so (and claimed “left wing” for himself).
John Lennon? Did you have your coffee? You could have gone Kant and the self-actualization shtick. Reminds me of A Fish Called Wanda
Actually in Commie terms Stalin was to the right, and Trotsky was on the Left.
The Red’s real complaints about Nazism were it was nationalist thereby undercutting their workers of the world nonsense, it did not destroy the corporate structure it controlled it while allowing profits, it allowed private property, and it provided the “benefits” of socialism, medical care, housing education without the collectivization of the Reds thereby making it more attractive to many more people in society. Roosevelt’s New Deal drew far more from Italian fascism than it ever did from Red communism.
Stalin abandoned Internationalism, instead going for "Socialism in One Country", he was more like Hitler.
Hitler and Stalin greatly admired each other, despite being mortal enemies.
Nice find.
The Reagan brief clip mentioned in this thread it worth resharing.

Fascism and Communism are two sides of the same coin. They are about state control and state domination of the economy and private life. They replace old religions with a new one where the state is supreme.
The Left is good at manipulating history and language for their own purposes. They’ve completely hidden the history of the Democrat party from Americans. An ignorant populace is easier to manipulate.
Search engines have become the biggest tools for propaganda. Few people search past the first page or two of results.
During the last two presidential campaigns if you attempted to search for anything on Obama or Hillary it went to Snopes or some other left wing source to spin whatever topic you entered.
Redefine words. Control access to information. Rewrite history.
Orwell got it right.
Ironic Leftists were mentioning that book after Trump won. It actually became a best seller. It describes exactly the state-controlled existence they’d have us all living.
Mussolini invented fascism, so his definition is the one that matters. He defined it as opposed to both socialism, liberalism, and democracy, however, its primary principle is collectivism, with all individual rights subordinated to the needs of the state. Thus it can only be a left wing ideology.
Well the problem is “left” and “right” are relative terms rather than absolute. It’s all about who is to the “right” or “left” of the person who is judging.
So Trotsky can be to the “left” of Stalin, while Hitler is to the “right” of Stalin, but they would all be to the “left” of the someone believing in Republicanism or Democracy.
In the end, that’s the point, the terms “Left” and “Right” are pointless.
Yes, your point is correct. The Fascists were, at most, center/right totalitarians. The actual right in most of Europe were the Monarchists. And the Nazis, unlike the Fascists, openly blocked the monarchial revival in both Bavaria & Austria. And note that the last Kaiser died in 1942, still in exile in the Netherlands.
