In October 2010, news broke about how the Campbells Soup company received an Islamic (halal) certification for some of its product line, and many were outraged. There was a legitimate concern not with the fact that Campbells received the certification, but with what organization the certification came from, that being the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a group co-founded by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leader Sami al-Arian.
In 2007 and 2008, ISNA was named by the U.S. Justice Department as a co-conspirator for two federal trials dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas. The defendants of the trials were the leaders of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) and HLF itself. In the end, each was found guilty of all charges.
There was good reason for ISNA being named. Campbell’s... meh. Nothing special about any of their soups.
More and more major corporations are quietly preparing for the day when our new masters DEMAND halal food, or they’ll cut our infidel heads off.
While Campbell’s decision to market halal products seem a business decision, they may come to regret it. A demand that Muslims only are employees in the production of the product seems possible.
We had the time now to make our own soups and don’t need a quick fix like we used to. My wife has some casseroles that use cream of chicken or cream of mushroom that are very good with quick preparation time.
Just added Campbell’s to my ever growing ban list. Not that it matters to my pantry since I haven’t purchased their overpriced cans of salt for years.
You’re right. Homemade soup is way better than anything from a can and puts to use all those little bits of leftovers that some would throw out.
Campbell’s was already on the LGBT supporter list. Now, it’s double banned in this household.
