A USA Today review of “Dunkirk” is under increased scrutiny from industry peers for warning viewers that it lacks women and minorities.
Social media ridicule followed the publishing of writer Brian Truitt’s reaction to director Christopher Nolan’s latest film, a World War II tale about Allied soldiers attempting to survive while pinned down by German adversaries. The columnist gave the film a glowing review while saying its lack of diversity “may rub some the wrong way.”

Historical movies should reflect history as it was.
That’s a rhetorical question, right?
No ‘lead actors of color’ in Dunkirk?
Oh, please. Just like movies about Vikings would obviously be chock full of ‘actors of color’.
After a while, I start to feel like I’m trapped in a never-ending Monty Python skit.

Historical Accuracy is out the window. Today they’d probably cast Steve McQueen’s character in The Great Escape as a Japanese lesbian.
Well, you’d have a much shorter movie if you took all the white males out.

Agreed. It shouldn’t even be a question or issue.
Yet, I doubt this movie reflects history other than Dunkirk did happen.
Thank goodness. It sounds like there’s no boring, meaningless love story angle like the one that killed the movie “Pearl Harbor.”
This is all to preempt Oscar awards. Don’t want the quality of a movie to impact nominations, doncha no.
If there is a modern day basketball film, I trust Caucasian men and women will have demographic representation.

McQueen’s character was invented as far as I am aware.
Gender identity and it’s fluidity was a big big burning issue on those beaches at the time. Some very heated discussions, I’m sure.
Is it a Brit movie? Will they claim Dunkirk as a Victory?
