In their defense, I made it through high school and a liberal arts college without ever studying Napolean or even much about the French Revolution.

I did, however, know about Bastille Day. Not sure if it was from school classes or a novel my 8th grade social studies teacher strongly suggested I read. We had to do a report on a historical novel of our choosing, but she handed me the biggest book I had ever seen. It was a novel written from the perspective of Marie Antoinette-my fourteen year old self had a sympathetic view of the French aristocracy after that. I still don’t believe that she actually said,”let them eat brioche”.
