Ditto here. We have a beautiful reservoir that is open to the public for a fee. It has nice picnic benches and places to grill; brand new lavatories and changing rooms.

Many third world types come there from Hartford. They play loud music; are rowdy, leave a lot of litter; kids do not know how to swim...and I can't tell you what the rest room looks like after a few hours. These people don't even know how to use a toilet. I'll forgo any other descriptions...but you get the idea.

One of the most beautiful fresh water lakes in Connecticut, owned and maintained by a private water company. The disrespect is appalling.

“McDonald’s has downsized the footprint of every location I’ve seen.”

They’ve downsized their burgers too. “Biggie size” gets you the regular size you would’ve gotten 20 years ago.

No one who tracks fast food portions agrees the MCD’s burgers are smaller. Everybody’s burgers have gotten larger with more calories, even if the amount of meat is nominally the same. Everyone has just gotten used to bigger burgers at other places.

Quarter Pounders and Big Macs have actually added a little meat.

No one would accept the fries (2.5 oz.) and sodas (7 oz.) the size that was the McD’s standard 40 or more years ago.

A child still in diapers should not be using a public play area (thinking of the slide and the ball pit examples). Just my opinion.

I agree. I also believe that if your child is physically large enough to play high school football, he shouldn't be using the play areas either, regardless of his age.

I see a lot of this as well.

When I was young we never had that problem in outdoor park slides.

Short rant. Raised 5 children. Step kids but raised them I did. No major problems with any of them. I don’t recall any of them sliding down a slide in a diaper. Or swimming in a public pool in a diaper. Or eating in a car. Or disturbing other patrons in a restaurant. Or on a plane. Or pitching screaming fits in public places. Etc. Etc. (sigh) I guess I missed out on much of the joys of parenthood....

When did it become fashionable for children to become the object of amusement and entertainment for other people? Your little bundle of joys bad behavior is cute only to mom. And dad possibly. If you know who dad is.

Here in the South, iced tea is not really iced tea unless it contains a lot of sugar. In hot weather, unsweetened iced tea works better for me.
At the McDonalds drive-thru window I request unsweetened iced tea and the server says "we're out of unsweetened"
I say that's OK just give me what you have and throw in a couple packets of that unsweetener to add to it.

Every time I have done this the server at the window has turned and asked someone inside "Where do we keep the unsweetener?"
I let them off the hook by saying that I have my own packets of unsweetener.
I can only do this when my wife isn't with me...otherwise "Fido" gets an overnight "house-guest".

I got a standard hamburger (Not a Whopper or specialty offering) at Burger King the other day, and the pickle slice was thicker than the patty. No lie!

One of the state parks in NY has a lake we used to visit when I was younger; it was heavily damaged in Hurricane Irene (a year before Sandy) when dams failed due to the heavy rainfall, and apparently the state of NY has no intention of fixing or re-opening it. Same issues: Tons of litter (including diapers), just no sense of ownership for it.

Private clubs seemed to be the response of Americans living up there.
