Tickle said Popcorn said aint but one thing corns good fer.
I drive 25 miles to a gas station....
You are quite fortunate. My ATV sets with flat tires as the carburetor requires $100 per year in repairs for the food fuel that dissolves parts.
> The hell you say! How many taxpayer dollars did it take to arrive at this stunning conclusion? <
I’m currently applying for a grant to show that coal is better used as a fuel than as a food.
This conclusion was posted here in FR back in 2001 when I first joined. I remember reading it back then.
Maybe more “experts” should spend more time on FR and less time with their heads up their asses.
You’re wasting your time. The ethanol-haters don’t care about the fact that the corn used for biofuel is animal feed, not sweet corn, or that the recovered distiller’s dark grain is still a valuable feedstock, even after the sugars have been extracted by fermentation.
Facepalm.
They say this now but when Iowa does their shenanigans with their goofy primary system next presidential election, the politicians will bend over backwards understanding the plight of the farmers and importance of ethanol.
I think there was already research detailing this situation back in the 1990s. It’s just that so many senators have built up various biofuels tax credits and people have money invested in this fake industry...that you can’t allow the truth to get out.
The kicker was at the end. A hectare (2.74 acre) of food corn yields $1492 in profit while a hectare of fuel corn, after processing yields a LOSS of $10. Assuming all 13,700,000 acres of Nebraska cropland was converted to Ethanol, that would be a deficit of $56,000,000
Yep, alternative energy wins again /s
Good. Then I “appropriated” it.
They burned dung
If you pick it when it’s young and tender field corn is good. We often did that on the farm when I was a sprout.
Mama would also grind field corn to make her cornbread.
Your response
was my first thought
I am almost 78 & was raised on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. I knw the corn for fuel was a mess from the first thought. I didn’t have many science classes—but am a life long bookkeeper. It never penciled out.
I’ve thought for a long time that all states need to hold their primaries at the same time. A potential candidate sees a problem in the early primaries(or runs out of money) & decides there’s no use going on. It gives the the others an unfair advantage. This could be changed. Iowa could learn to live with it.
Hey...works for me. [Buuuurrrp.]
I think the profit per hectare will go down considerably if you plant 13,700,000 acres of food corn. How much more corn are you as a consumer going to eat?
Didn’t we already know all this 8 years ago. It is all about politics. My father in law told me way back that ethanol burns less efficiently and he would never put that crap in his engine.
Not just liberals. So called conservative in Iowa would knife any person who wanted to cut off their gravy train of ethanol subsidies. And political players, even on the GOP side, were on this bandwagon.
