Authorities in Pakistan said a man is facing charges after a viral video showed him driving around Karachi with a lion in the bed of his pickup truck.
The video, recorded in the Karimabad area this week, shows the black pickup cruising down a street with the lion casually lounging in the back, unrestrained by anything except a leash held by a man inside the vehicle.
The video was reported to police, who identified the lion's owner as Saqlain Jawaid, a Karachi pet dealer.
Jawaid said he has the proper permits to keep the lion and the incident in the viral video was him driving the big cat to a veterinarian to be seen for an illness.
Investigators said the man was found to have had a permit to operate a small private zoo, but the permit expired in 2016.
Authorities said Jawaid is expected to face charges including negligence and spreading fear and panic.
I didn't know part of Florida was in Pakistan.
Well there’s something you don’t see everyday...
Bringing up Baby
Even in Pakistan, a government permit (and a fee no doubt) is needed.
How do these people in 3rd world countries afford $40K vehicles?
Oh, man, I’d like to see the look on The Little Dog’s face if I pulled up next to a pickup with a lion in the back.
“Hey, buddy! Isn’t it great to ride in the back of a pickup? What kind of dog are you? A what? ABANDON SHIP!!!”
Much better than a “trunk monkey”.
Well, being in Paki, I would think it is a good theft and vandalism deterrent.
Exxon used to advertise, “put a tiger in youtr tank.”
“There are more Fird trucks on the road today than any other brand! Because nobody wants to try and get the lion out of the back of them!”
Put a tiger in your tank and a lion in your truck!
“Welcome to McDonalds. How may I help you?”
“I’ll have a Coke and the lion will have an order of McNuggets.”
“What kind of dipping sauce would you like with those?”
“Do you have any Zebra sauce?”
Stark contrast between houses on left and apts. on the right.
“the lion casually lounging in the back, unrestrained by anything except a leash held by a man inside the vehicle. “
I think the “unrestrained” part was the real problem, even if the lion was relatively tame and used to people.
“Hey Mister! Can I pet your dog?”
“Damnit. We’re in Massachusetts again. I knew I should have stayed on the interstate.”
We sold a beagle puppy to a young man a few years back that had just graduated from Harvard Law. He had a DUEL undergrad from Stanford. He was returning to Islamabad where his family was from to work in the business. My wife mentioned to him that I was in the lumber business. He stated his family owned several paper mills among other enterprises in Pakistan.
Basically, he was smart and rich. I suspected that one of his servants would be caring for the dog we had sold him.
There are really rich people in places like Pakistan. However, the majority of the population is extremely poor. They do not have a middle class like we are accustomed to.
It is VERY difficult to move up in class in Pakistan and India. If you are born poor, most likely you will die poor. It is almost impossible to be a self made millionaire like you can become here in the US. We really do live in the land of opportunity.
Anyway, the guy with the lion in the back of his truck is probably one of those rich guys. His lion probably eats more meat in a day than the average Pakistani eats in a month.
