1) Carter brought back the mullahs to Iran, setting off the progression we have today.
2) The Clintons have had the Muslim Brotherhood close at their side running their show for 22 years.

My choice would have been to keep Nixon in office for his whole second term.

And there would probably have been about a million Cambodians still alive today.

Yeah I would think no Carter would have the best results.

Indeed. no Carter, no Department of Education and no progressive takeover of our education system. At least not as early. Even eight years "earlier", in terms of the decline of the American education system, I doubt BHO could have won either of his terms. Possible that Clinton wouldn't have been elected, either.

Are you sure of that? Gerald Ford was pretty “progressive” for a Republican.

In hindsight, it it is clear that Bush41, Dole, Bush43, and McCain were only marginally better than a Democrat. The most that can be said in their favor is that they would have brought several thousand decent people to Washington with them.

1968 hands down

Tricky dick would have been relegated to the dust bin of history....therefore:

no Watergate committee for Hillary to get kicked off of because no Watergate. Would we have had gas lines doubt it. The vietcong might have been defeated...not sure.

George HW Bush would not have been Reagan's running mate, might have had Goldwater like Veep.

No Watergate impeachment means no Gerald Ford and bonus point = no Pulizer prize winning Washington Communist Post story

I've said HW Bush was the worst mistake Reagan ever made...and I believe HWB was the beginning of the entrenchment of the Deep State we see in Washington DC today. Since HWB wasn't president in 1992...quite possible Billy Heartpants Clinton would not have been the nominee of Dems in 1992 because this country would have been a much more conservative country by then because of Reagan presidency in 1968, 1972

I still regret Colin Powell did not run against Bill Clinton in the second term election. He would have wiped Clinton out if he had run and become the first black president of the U.S., and I think would have set a very different course and standards for the country than Obama (I think he would have been a lot like Reagan).

I know Powell now has a different reputation in hindsight, but he was different back then. He was frankly the last presidential contender I got excited about supporting (before that was Reagan).

I think the whole course of history has changed and gone downhill because he didn’t run and boot the Clintons out of office.

Either Goldwater wins or Perot didn’t run.

Carter followed very closely by Clinton.

You wanted Humphrey to defeat Nixon?

Reagan , Rockefeller, Romney and someone else ran against Nixon in 1968.

Humphrey, McGovern ran in 1972.....there wouldn't have been a Humphrey running if Reagan won in 1968.....

Reagan lost in a final RNC convention battle to the establishment in 1976. In 1980 he was the nominee but was forced to pick establishment VP Bush senior even though Reagan wanted someone else.

Ya, since Bush was CIA director I always wondered how many files he used to blackmail the Rino’s and people around Reagan to convince him he had to take HWB as Veep.....

The Peanut Farmer and BillyBob surely have damaged this country in several important ways but the Community Organizer-In-Chief did far more damage.

So I'd say '08.

1976!!!!! Carter was a disaster. He started all this global warming nonsense. Wear a sweater. Can’t stand him.

Lately started wondering about the Bush-Clinton-Perot race given the recent uncovering on FR about Poppy George and the young Clinton.

Wish I had stored that photo of a very young Willie at a picnic with GHWB. Where did their paths intersect so early when Clinton was a hayseed nothing.

Reagan had a huge problem saying NO. He couldn’t pick his VP. He couldn’t say no to amnesty. Not sure what his problem was but it wasn’t good on a number of issues. Yes I was too young to “honor him” but just reading some of the things he did makes me amazed that he is so God like to many here.

Carter was terrible, but in many ways a continuation of Nixon. Our governance (price controls, EPA, DoEnergy, DoEd) was really bad in the 1970s.

Carter had the effect of President Reagan. That was all he was good for.
