Chain controls are in effect on the 15-mile stretch of Interstate 80 between Kingvale and Donner Lake. Scattered snow and rain is expected to continue Monday morning in the Truckee area..
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m. Monday for the Sierra from Shasta to Calaveras counties.
In Yosemite National Park, the slow work of clearing Tioga Road continues. The park reported on Tuesday that the two crews plowing Highway 120 one going west from Lee Vining, the other east from Crane Flat had met at Tioga Pass. But road opening is not imminent, the park said, adding that in years of similar snowpack the road has opened in late June or early July.

Global Warming...just sayin’. We really should be planning for the cooling of the planet. Cooling would be MUCH worse. We cannot grow food in snowdrifts.
Yesterday in Sacramento it topped out at 64deg, with a moist wind blowing in from the ocean.
It felt cold. Fall weather.
GEEEZZ!! IT DIDN’T LOOK THAT BIG IN PREVIEW!!
Mt Rose chains. Spooner and Kingsbury Grade open.
Cool. Brings back memories. Worked at Sugar Bowl (Donner Summit) back in the 80’s. Good times and good money on I80 @ Truckee installing chains for the weary gamblers returning from Reno!
How many inches of snow did they get? I was in D.C. once and they shut down the roads over 2inches. We get 2ft in less than 24hrs sometimes.
In the Sierras this last winter there were several days they got more the 6ft in 24hrs.
Same thing happened in 1998 in Sacto area.
The other El Nino year.
Hope we don’t have another multi-year drought anytime soon.
Has anyone called the Governor about this? He swore up and down last year that we will never see Snow in Ca again.
The sky is falling, either way.
The wind was really blowing over here on the peninsula yesterday. All day. Trees and bushes bending and waving non stop. Had some short rain showers on Frriday, too.
And, if you are doing it alone, bring PLENTY of food.
On second thought, even if you bring a friend, BRING PLENTY OF FOOD.
(((That area has a “reputation”)))
GLOBAL WARMING !!!
Oh if only we hadn’t pulled out of the Paris Accords...
this wouldn’t have happened...
If you have a friend all you need is barbecue sauce...
LOL!
“How many inches of snow did they get?”
I think it was only a few inches. I heard on the 2meter that Incline Village got 3 inches.
But that section of the 80 is steep and twisty. They go to chain controls pretty quick and clear it just as quick. It takes a lot more than that to actually close it. They closed it dozens of times this last winter. The Sierras in that area still have a lot of snow on them.
I heard a funny story about some tourists up there that parked their rental car along the road this last January. 48 hours and over 10 feet of snow later that car wasn’t seen again.
A couple dudes went out on the Rubicon trail in their 4x4s back in January. They got stuck and it took 4 months before they dug the first truck out of the snow. The second rig is still up there.
“He swore up and down last year that we will never see Snow in Ca again.”
Hah! As much as they have up there some mountains are going to have snow YEAR ROUND this year.
We’ve been chilling our food and beer with snow dug from up the mountain while camping at my place in Battle Mountain, NV this past weekend and memorial weekend.
