It’s not automatically redirecting to the secure site yet?

For the technically challenged:

Old bookmark / URL (line at the top of the browser)
http://freerepublic.com

New bookmark / URL
https://freerepublic.com

More secure connection - HIGHLY recommend that you change your URL in your bookmark

Sure it will. Eventually the 'old' bookmark will redirect you automagically to the secure web site. See the blurb at the top of this page.

#10 "And just WHAT am I suppose3d to DO with this info?"

When you prefix the freerepublic.com url with https, all your traffic with Freerepublic is securely encrypted, and no one—government, hackers, Hillary—can see what you are posting, or what kind of financial transaction you are conducting.

See the Wikipedia article on https.

Thanks, upchuck. Any reason the web service can't do a "Redirect 301 / https://www.freerepublic.com/" on the port 80 listener, so we are protected even when we forget the "https"?

None that I know of. Eventually, as the new URL propagates, changes will be unnecessary.
