China, India Plans for Electric Cars Threaten to Cut Petrol Demand
Malaysia Star ^ | Saturday, 13 May 2017

Demand for petrol in Asia may peak much earlier than expected as millions of people in China and India buy electric vehicles over the next decade, threatening wrenching change for the oil industry, oil and auto company executives warned.

They said refiners should prepare for a future in which petrol, their biggest source of revenue, will be much less of a cash cow.

Change is being prompted by policy moves in India and China, where governments are trying to rein in rampant pollution, cut oil imports, and compete for a slice of the fast-growing green car market.

In its "road map", released in April, China said it wants alternative fuel vehicles to account for at least one-fifth of the 35 million annual vehicle sales projected by 2025.

India is considering even more radical action, with an influential government think-tank drafting plans in support of electrifying all vehicles in the country by 2032, according to government and industry sources interviewed by Reuters late last week.

Well, for example, if they used coal, that would effect the price of oil.

(If you remember, Nazi Germany was using some kind of liquid coal as fuel, just because they were running out of oil.)

“China, India Plans for Electric Cars Threaten to Cut Petrol Demand” ... but will produce MASSIVE increases in demand for coal ... assuming these “plans” actually happen ... which is REALLY doubtful.

Fair enough. I’m all for coal, oil and whatever it takes until atomic fusion is safe to run with.

Reality is so often missed by the snowflakes that are falling all around us.

From the rats nest of wires that hang above the city streets.

There is no way their grid system is capable of handling that much plugin car demand.

Our system cant handle it. They undersize neighborhood transformers that require the typical lower usage time overnight to cool down.

Traffic looks terrible in parts of China. And the pollution sucks. Toss in the fact that china has coal/nuclear but no oil and electric makes sense. Bad traffic means a car doesn’t need much range. Bad pollution means moving the source of production to outside the city is good (say a coal plant). And not having to import so much oil is good for their nations security.

India and China are both short of oil and have more coal. So coal power for cars is great.

"How can so many otherwise intelligent humans not understand basic physics?"

In most places, the elected policy makers are not among the sharpest knives in the drawer.
