A 10-year-old girl attacked by an alligator in central Florida was able to break free from the reptile after prying its jaws open, authorities said.

The girl was with her family at Moss Park in Orange County when she was bitten Saturday, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Wildlife commission spokesman Chad Weber said the girl was sitting in shallow water when the 8-foot-9-inch gator bit her on her knee and calf. About dozen people were swimming nearby when the girl began screaming for help.

I’d say her parents flunked the Darwin Test.

“Mommy, can I go swimming in this Florida pond?”

“Sure honey, have fun.”

this, by the way, is completely impossible. The gator let go. No human can pry open the jaws of a nine foot alligator.

It’s a wonder she wasn’t arrested for messing with a gator.................

Either a weak sick gator or she's supergirl.

So. Did the officials hand the parents a $500 ticket?

Smart girl. She remembered hearing that if bit, you hit them in the nose. She did, and the gator released her.

...hit them in the nose

I thought that was sharks.
Oh well, I'm not smarter than a 10yo girl, apparently.
Good for her.

Yes, I read that she was told that hitting them in the nose was more effective than going for the eyes. Smart 10yo girl. If it was me, I’d be screaming like a little girl.

A ten year old girl prying open a gator’s jaws, even a small gator, is a true feat of strength. I compares with the 110 pound granny that lifts a car off her grandbaby. I used to hear it called hysterical strength, physical feats that are normally quite impossible.

Why can’t we just kill all the gators like we used to?

Why, there are a million uses for a dead alligator.

They make great tv stands.

Cut off the tip of the tail and you have a great marijuana pipe.

Put one in your swimming pool to keep the neighbor kids from sneaking in for a midnight swim.

Permit for 2 CITES tags (for customers who already have an Alligator Trapping License valid through 11/1/2016): $62.00

So get busy folks. 1 down, 3 million to go... :-D
