Just think of how many more people they could accommodate if everyone stood up during the flight. Of course, the 17 hours to Australia may be a wee bit tiring.

How can it get much worse? The cattle cars to auschwitz were more comfortable.

If they do not make basic coach as unbearable as they possibly can then how can they justify jacking up the fares for the premium seats?

If there was some customer benefit to doing this such as an airfare cost reduction it might be defensible but it’s no doubt being done just to shore up the bottom line. Frequent flyers should punish them by refusing to book flights on AA. Let the infrequent flyers and tourists suffer the even tighter cattle car treatment. See how long they stick with it before backing off if they lose their cash cow, speaking of cattle.

I am going to be flying less and less and shorter distances when I do fly.

I haven’t been on a flight that wasn’t completely full in a good while. And the airports are completely jammed, there’s no more landing slots available at most, and no way to add runway capacity at any significant domestic airport.

At least there’s no traffic on the highways.

Sooner or later, some law firm is going to try to to put a DVT class action lawsuit which will cause more scurrying around and more money for the attorneys.

I wouldn’t have thought there were two inches left to cut.

They could pack more people in and make it more comfortable at the same time, if they just radically redesigned the seats.

Redesigning seats would cost more money. Putting them closer together costs much less.

“Accordingly, the airline will reduce the distance between seats, also known as seat pitch, from 31 inches to 29 inches on three rows of the airplane, and to 30 inches across the rest of its main economy class cabin.”

That’s insane. 28 inches is basically the minimum you can get away with, when even average height people will have their knees pressing against the seat in front of them.

Idiots. I thank God I’m not a large person, but even I am cramped already on flights.

It’s painful to watch large folks on a plane. But hey... airlines GOTTA squeeze more from their customers - anyway they can, right?

I have flown American very frequently for years. At the current seat separation, it is already near impossible to work on the computer if the passenger in front of you exercises their right to lean back. Another loss of two inches will make it almost impossible to work on the computer if they DON’T lean back.

They’re going to start getting a lot more flak from people seated beside large individuals flowing over the armrest. It’s very uncomfortable now to be in that position. Make it even tighter and some are going to snap.

oh for crying out loud- just do away with all the seats and put people in animal crates- you can even stack them atop each other several high- and save a ton of room- put a bowl of water i n there- and a few scooby snacks- use cattle prods if they act up and want something more

Flying isn’t a luxury right folks

At some point they're going to have to end the reclining seats if they keep pushing the seats closer together.
