I live in Santa Ana / South Coast Metro and speak English. (Well, some would contest my English speaking as I am a native of the suburbs of Boston.)
We are cancelling the REGISTER. The product is no longer worth its subscription price.
The family that owns Burrell's Barbecue is black. Located on Hesperian St. in a residential neighborhood, this hole-in-the-wall eatery is known for its Southern-style barbecue cuisine.
Since it changed owners recently, the Register has gotten to be more like the LA Times.
“Does a single resident of Santa Ana speak English?”
There are some TOTAL IDIOTS making the claim that one can get by in Santa Ana by only speaking English. Obviously not people who have ever been there.
The mother of one of my friends died about a year ago.
Must have been in her late ‘70s, had lived in SoCal since sneaking over from Mexico in the 1950s. Never learned English.
You know you are getting old when you remember when the people of Southern California spoke English. Now it’s a regular Tower of Babel.

It’s gotten expensive. I do the online Mon-Thurs and receive the print version Fri-Sun. But it’s getting more like the LA Times and less and less enjoyable to read. The headlines are all slanted to the left.
I have worked in Santa Ana, and only speak English. I had no problems speaking only English.
