Hmm, I’ve had ricotta cheesecake, but not the elaborate confection with fondant and candied fruit. But, I am not of Sicilian origin. I am familiar with Easter pie (pizza chiena), a savory pie filled with meat, cheese and egg.
Mmmm! Sounds great! What region is that from? I lived amongst Neapolitans, Sicilians and Abruzzese. The big thing in that neighborhood was the ricotta easter pie made either like a cheesecake, or in a pan with piecrust, or formed with an aluminum mold into a lamb, which was then iced. My close friend's recipe is flavored with a touch of lemon zest.
